What to expect with neuter and spay?

In a month I am taking my min pin to have her spayed and my boxer to have him neutered. I am just wondering what to expect afterwards. This will be the first I have went through anything like this except getting the min pins ears cropped which I will never do again...My sister in law just got her boxer spayed and she had all sorts of problems. She had terrible effects from the anestetic and was puking everywhere then had blood in her urine and turns out to be a urinary tract infection. Is this normal with all of them or what? I just want to be prepared when I bring them home of what to do so I am not worried to death.

I am very curious about this as well. Pokey has an appointment for neuter on March 4th. I did ask when I scheduled him if they used ACE and they told me they did not. YEA!

I too would like any information or suggestions. I for some reason feel guilty that I am doing this to him, but I keep reassuring myself that it is for the best.

The majority of spay and nueters go well without any complications. Find a vet that you trust, get a reccomendation. As for the ACE make sure it's on your dogs chart. I would ask to see where they have written down.
Your pups would be at a much higher risk if they were to have a litter then if they were to be spayed.

My boxer, Henry, just got neutered yesterday. He is my 4th dog to be fixed and all went just fine. Two of mine had to stay overnight and the other stayed long enough for the medicine to wear off pretty well, so I was a little scared bringing Henry home yesterday because he was so weak and wobbley, but a few hours later he was already much better. It varies from dog to dog how they will act while they are recovering. Some are tired and mopey others ready to go full speed.
Try not to worry, you are doing the right thing for your babies!

What I did when Asia was spayed was print out that page (the link posted above), and have them put it in Asia's file - I also wrote 'NO ACE' real big on her file so they would know as soon as they opened it not to use it.

Supposedly, it is incredibly harmful to Boxers, as well as other certain breeds. Some people have said that the vet used ACE on their Boxers and there has been no reaction, others have said it caused a billion unnecessary problems! I wouldn't take the chance of letting them use it though.

Tyson was neutered a couple weeks ago and was perfectly fine afterwards. The only tough part was to "keep him calm" I don't think he realized he had surgery.
His incision healed beautifully. There was never any bleeding, never any bruising, and we didn't even have to go back to have stitches taken out (they were the dissolveable kind).

I called around about the ACE and every vet here uses it and has for over 25 years and supposedly never had any problems. I asked if I could request it not be used and they said it is standard they do it to all of them. So I guess with no other choices I have to go through with it.

My vet said she rarely used it and did not use it on Duke. I printed out info on it and they put it in his file and said they would not use it.

I think I remember reading here in a thread, that most vets (or all vets) have a reference book that specifically states that ACE should not be used on Boxers.

I would keep calling around if I were you, just to be safe.
