well, I had wanted a dog that I didnt see mich of..something different. And my bf and I both love Boston Terriers. We were all set to get one when we found out the "breeder" we were getting it from was a puppy mill. SO that ended that. Then i went online looking for different dogs, and Found that Boxers were just big versions of bostons and there was an add selling some in the papers (BYB i know bad bad shannon, but i didnt know then AND at least I got her, not someone who wouldnt take care ofher) And Rob and I were completel in love with this one that lives near his house, a beautiful Brindle boy, everytime we saw him we were just in awe, and they were dogs we didnt see much around here. So I called the addin the paper on the friday, just to check ou the price and such...there were 9 puppies born all 9 were available friday,I called back on sunday...there was one left i told them id be there in 45 minutes to look at her Then i called my sister in law to see if she would drive me, so she piled the kidsinto the car and we drove the 45 minutes..got lost...found the place.. I saw this fat little puppy poking her head out the sliding glass door,....and she came home with me :)

I never had a dog growing up because we lived in an apartment so I vowed when I got married and owned a house the first thing I would do is get a dog. So I got married 3 years later bought a house, so 1 week later started looking for a dog, my husband grew up with German Shepards his whole life but I really didn't trust them, I wanted a Shar-Pei but was told lots of inbreeding caused many health problems so off the the book store to buy a book on dog breeds and after lots of research its the boxer we chose and we were not disapointed and will never have anyting but a boxer!!!!

My kids are both teenagers and don't need me much and I wanted a puppy so for about a year I looked online and showed my husband pictures of puppys. In that year I started reading about different breeds and was really interested in the boxer. I found out our neighbors had gotten a 2 yr old brindle girl named Socks so I went for a visit and fell in love with her. For my birthday he relented and said I could get a puppy, but it took 3 more months before we got our little bundle of joy. He is fawn with a white chest and black mask with a white spot on top of his nose. His name is Boomer and he is 5 months old. I adore him, my older dog hates him (but he doesn't feel good) and the cats put up with him. When I got him I was having trouble with my back and slept on the couch and he slept on my face most of the time. He would lick me when he had to go potty. I am hooked.

Great thread... My mom always talked about her grandma's boxer and how much she loved him and what a great dog he was. When my great-grandma died, Rascal just disappeared and no one could ever find him. My mom was always convinced he had set off to find her grandma. Then in grad school there was a guy who had the most awesome boxer... it went with him everywhere. Luckily many of the professors were cool with him sitting right next to him during class. The boxer was so well behaved that if he wasn't allowed in class, he just waited quietly outside the door. I miss that about Europe... dogs being welcome in so many places... anyway, that made up my mind that one day I would have a boxer and Saturday that dream is finally coming true!

Ashamed but grateful (A love story)

I fell in love with my first boxer when I thought I was in love with my first bf. I actually think I liked the dog more than the guy! LOL! Higgins (the dog) was so regal, and full of personality, I fell in love with the breed. Many years later (after I married my dh), we got our first boxer puppy Brittney from a BYB (I am ashamed). Six months after that, we got a second dog, Duke. After almost 11 grateful years with Duke and Brittney, I am more in love with the boxer breed than ever. R.J. is my first "well bred" boxer from a legitimate breeder, and I am learning more about the breed standards every day thanks to BW. Although I loved Duke and Brittney to pieces, I would never get another dog from a BYB, simply because this wonderful breed deserves only the best. So here I am, a boxer lover, committed for life.

As soon as we bought our house the research began. We knew we wanted a medium to large dog, short hair, good with kids, intellegent, and protective. We did not have a computer at the time, so we did alot of book research. We used a great book written by Roger Karas that had a picture of every breed with a description of that breed's traits and a chart that rated different things like trainabilty, coat care, amount of exercise etc. It was very helpful. And the boxer just fit our family perfectly. I could not imagine life without a boxer.

I have to share for those of you who have not heard this story. I am ashamed to admit, but not only did i NOT want a boxer...i pretty much was downright ugly about it and told hubby this would be HIS dog and responsibility. We went to go and pick her up and I was star struck with that little smashed face and puppy breath and was the most cuddly baby i have ever known! Sasha cried the first night in the crate and has been in our bed ever since....i had to beg for a second one for months and then we were SO blessed to get the first rescue we applied for and my Telmar is my heart! I have been begging for a third but cannot until we get a fenced in backyard....
I am hooked on the breed!

I wanted a Boxer For their beauty their character and their love of children.
My hubby has always had them in his family. And he told some tales about them as you can imagine . His nan was a big dog lover and always had a doberman and a boxer at her side. My hubby lived with his grand parents through his childhood and those dogs were his guardians!
The stories of the boxers were always the funniest, The last one they had was a brindle name Buster He was very special, and so now our children have a brindle name Buster!

Hubby wanted a boxer and as soon as we closed on our house, we started looking for a breeder. I think he wanted one because of their playfulness and devotion. I was always a cat person (we have four of those) and told him from the start that this would be "his" puppy. Well, guess who ended up getting up for midnight potty time and cleaning the messes up and feeding the baby. Needless to say, Brutus is "my" boy now and we're patiently waiting on his little sister to be born so daddy can have a puppy of his own.

While my DH was still living with his parents, he bought a boxer puppy for "his sisters 18th birthday" - yeah right. I grew up with bulldogs, which are very similar to boxers in many ways, so when I met my hubby Tyson was about 4, I immediately thought he was adorable. It was a natural progression when we bought our first house, that we would get boxers, there wasn't even a debate.
