What made you want a Boxer??

When I first met my husband he worked in a collision repair shop and the owner had a beautiful fawn female who "protected" the shop. She was a sweetheart! I remember the first day I went there and was about to open the glass door and there stands this dog with a real menacing look about her. I had never in my life even seen a boxer in person so I was a little intimiated to say the least. But the owner says to her...Lady it's alright and she started waggin that little nub so fast I thought it would fly right off! Then when I sat down in chair and she came and sat right next to me and looked at me with those big ol' brown eyes my heart melted. Then she let one rip...stunk to high heaven!! And even with the gas problem I knew from that day forward that a boxer was the breed for me!

I'm not sure what actually made me want one, but I remember seeing 2 Boxers in a yard playing, the yard was a mess from them getting into the trash but they were SOOO cute together. I ended up getting a Boxer Mix and knowing what I know now he had a lot of the Boxer traits. Of course he was 3/4 Boxer so he looked like a poorly bred Boxer but most people had no idea he was a mix.

I then had a rescue Boxer and he was great, but he got hit by a car after 10 months of having him. :( It took me 2 years until I was ready to get another Boxer and that was when I found my Murph as a pup! He was such a great puppy. He too has since gone to the bridge. :( I'll always have at LEAST one, but here I am with 2 again and it is great...gotta love those Boxers!

Ok........since Sasha's mom "came out" in her post I suppose I will too My DH had also wanted a boxer when we started our family. They just didn't have the cuddly factor in a dog I had pictured in my oh so clueless little head so we had labs. I loved my labs so much.

When my son got his first home last year he asked me to help him research boxers. Just the research convinced me how wrong I was on the breed but when he got his little brindle boy last summer I became totally obsessed. I was so impressed, in love and fascinated with him that I had to have one of my own. Even tho my plan was to wait a year and pray I could have one from the same set of parents, my beloved Logan was brought into my life. 5 mos old, hairless w/the worse runny nose I had ever seen. A rescue that I drove 12 hrs and 2 states to get. He will be a year old this month and there isn't a day that goes by that I'm not constantly kissing his little squishy face telling him how lucky WE are. What light and love he brought into our lives. DH and I still look at each other and say "what is it w/a boxer that makes us act like we have never had a dog before?". Always reading or talking about them and of course stalking them. The most animated and amazing creature we have ever been blessed enough to be owned by

DH had one as a child. He really loved that dog. I never really cared about them either way. Then for Christmas 2003 the kids and I got DH a boxer.Now we are all in love with the breed.

I was really leaning towards a german shepard because my parents had one when I was growing up, but knew a couple back in college who had 2 sweet and beautiful boxers. I was stuck deciding between the two. I did a little research and found out how good boxers are with kids, then had to convince my husband who wanted and still wants a bull terrier(the target dog).
Well I got my boxer and hubby has to save his pennies up to get his bull terrier.

I grew up with the best dog, he was a black lab and he was awesome he was very protective of me. When he died I was heart broken, and about to move on my own so I told my parents I had to have a dog, for security and most of all companionship. I never really thought of a boxer, at first I really wanted a border collie. My friend had two boxers and I never really thought much of them, but the more I hung out with him the more I liked his dogs. My parents had always had boxers and would always talk about them and how funny they were and the personality they have an so on. I knew I liked the name Oscar, and decided that I wanted a boxer after hearing SO much about them. I went to a pet store and there he was, just sitting among all these other puppies (the pet store was horrible, and I am sorry that I gave them money), he was perfect and the name fit him like a glove, (it's that face, he looks kinda like a grouch!). Now I am obsessed, and when other people talk about their dogs I always want to share all of my fun stories, b/c I truly believe that no other breed has quite the amount of personality that the boxer has. As a single girl living alone for the first time without family, I couldn't have dreamed of a better companion and protector. He hasn't replaced my lab, the lab was my man, my rock my buddy. Oscar is all of those, in a differrent way, but he is also my baby (I got him when he was 6 wks). The reason I think they are great for single girls is b/c they are as sweet as can be but with that menacing look people will definitely think twice about approaching you.

the first boxer I met was about fours ago named Tyson. He belongs to the BF's daughter. She took him everywhere and when he visited with us, I was always petting and hugging him and taking him outside to play. I told people that Tyson is my "therapy dog" because I always felt happy and content when he was around. I wanted to see Tyson more than anyone else in the BF's family. That is why I chose a boxer and my boy, Gunther, gives me that same (even much more so) feelings.

You all will probably be mad at me, but I wasn't one who liked dogs at all. I didn't want to get her. My husband wanted a boxer pup for a long time. I went with him and then we saw her. He made me hold her. She gave me boxer kisses. Then my husband went out of town and I was "stuck" with her. We grew a bond like no other. She is my bestfriend now. I thank my husband in my own way for getting her.

My family always had dogs mostly spaniels, So when it was the right time to for my boyfriend and I to get our puppy, I naturally assumed it would be a spaniel. how wrong I Was! His family is a boxer family though and through, I was bombarded with cute pictures of all the past generation pups unitl i agreed. Now I know I made the right decision Harry is perfect in every way and has become such a hugh part of our family so quickly. We've only had him 2 months and I'd be lost without him.

My husband had a fawn boxer named King years ago, and always talked about getting another one when/if we bought a place of our own. I had never had a dog, knew next to nothing about taking care of dogs, and quite honestly wasn't sure I really wanted one. Well, in 2003, we bought a condo in a development that allowed dogs, so my husband started talking seriously about looking for his boxer, and along the way convinced me. After all, it would be HIS dog. He found a breeder (BYB from the paper :( ) and we went to look at the puppies. Seven too cute for words puppies!! Their mom and dad were fine looking boxers, clean and friendly - everything looked good and we were impressed with the breeder. My husband had his heart set on a fawn male, but when the breeder brought out the puppies that were still available, this little brindle guy (5 weeks old) trots over to us, little nub in a whir, we were done for. We brought him home 3 weeks later. Fast forward to the present....Grunt is now MY dog....the love of my life, the sparkling light in my life, best friend and protector....and my hubby loves it that he is! And, not to mention, I am now the crazy boxer lady - can't have enough of them!! Thanks, Boxerworld, for helping me be a good mom, sharing your babies, and teaching me so much about boxers.
