What kind of fencing do you have?

I was reading a thread awhile back about injuries/illnesses that everyones Boxers have had and I saw that alot of the boxers have been hit by cars. That really scares me.
We need to replace our fence before Victor gets bigger and I was wondering what type of fencing everyone had here. We currently have the old wire type fence. It had never been a problem since my Pugs and Bulldogs never tried to get out. They are not jumpers. But Victor will try to climb out of his crate . I am afraid that with the chain link he will still be able to climb out, but I don't want a 6 foot tall privacy fence either.

We have a combination of 4ft picket fence at the back and 6 ft privacy fencing at the front and side. There is no way Finn could get over the 6ft but he is not a jumper or climber so he does not get over the 4ft picket either, but a different dog might. I would think that chainlink would be easier to scale than a wooden fence, so I would go with wood. But also remember that not only can some dogs get over fences some get under them. Finnegan came into rescue for that very reason, he used to dig under a chain link fence and escape, but that has never been an issue for us as he is never left outside on his own for extended periods.

We have a six foot black chain link fence that attaches to the back of the house and garage. (Actually a pole close to the corners which only leaves about a 2 inch gap between the home and the fence.

We have two gates which allow access to the front yard and out back. These can be padlocked so that they cannot be opened by others, and then left open. We also have tubes at the bottom rather than the typical wire. That provides additional stiffness so a dog cannot deflect the fence enough to squeeze underneath.

We have 6'foot privacy fencing and LOVE it. Fencing really depends upon the individual dog you are trying to contain. If you have a dog that climbs, I would stear away from chain link. If you have a jumper, I definantly recommend 6'ft fencing--although some can and do get over it The best advice is to get adequate fencing but never leave the dog unattended for extended periods of time.

Not only is it great to keep the pups in their own yard but I can sun tan without the neighbors get sick:D :D

Chain link and privacy fence

My front yard is surrounded by chain link, and the backyard is 6' wooden privacy fence. They could jump the chain link...they just don't know it. However, even with my whole yard fenced in, I stay out and monitor their every move. But that's from not trusting other people, more than not trusting my lad and lass.

We have a 4 foot wooden picket like fence on three sides. Not a privacy fence, tho, you can see thru the slats. I don't like not knowing what's on the other side, and I also wanted Austin to be able to see out and be seen. The back has a 6 foot privacy fence that the neighbor put up. No loss there.

We have a5' chain link fence which is 45'x 85'. We have a large country lot but were never keen on letting dogs run wild. There is a lot of wildlife nearby and two german shephards next door. The fence is set up so that I can let them out from the house without having to tie them. I never tie them. There is a gate on either side of the house so whether we are on the deck or at the driveway we can let them in or out. The gates open in so that if they are ever unlatched and they climb up they can only push the gate closed. The other good thing about the chain link and gates on either side of the house is that they can see the world outside.

Although they are always with me out front and free to run while I am watching I always feel safer with them in their run. I would absolutely never let them out the front door to run.

The only injury we've had was in October when the german shephards from next door came roaming through the woods antagonizing the girls. Paige got her front right 'pinky' claw caught in the fence and pulled it out.:(

I didn't vote cause we have 4' chain link, some 6' privacy, and one of those others we can't talk about! I have a climber/jumper so now he is on a heavy cable run which is attached from the house to our detached garage. DJ has already broke a smaller cable on a tie out and was brought home on Christmas morning by a neighbor. once he learned he could go over fence like a deer, we cannot keep him in, so far heavy cable is working.
