If he's not in his kennel or if he finds a way out of his kennel then he likes to redecorate the house. He brings all of the toys to whatever door we left out of, then he starts bringing teddy bears there, then pillows, then toilet paper. When he runs out of decorating ideas then he opens the closets and eats shoes. He never eats a pair, he always eats one shoe from two different pairs - appearantly he wants to go around in unmatching shoes more often. I almost can hear him thinking "Well, I tried the black one, lets see how a red one tastes now." And if we leave out any food like a loaf of bread - he also helps himself to that, we're worried that he'll learn to open the fridge one day but so far he hasn't thank goodness. :P

Kongs are good; I heard putting peanut butter in them intensifies the interest for the dog (I have never tried it; Ruby outgrew her kongs). If I leave Ruby in the backyard unattended for long stretches I leave treats scattered in hidden places all around the yard (like an easter egg hunt!).

Chew toys...LOTS of chew toys. And rawhides. But I don't give mine rawhides unsupervised. They have a tendency to try and swallow pieces to big for them. But it does keep them occupied for a long period of time. Satisfies their chewing needs.

Mine seem to keep each other company and a kong frozen with peanutbutter in it works wonders but not for long. Lexi can tear into hers in no time. I leave bones for mine (we too never leave them with rawhides unattended), a tug of war toy for them to play with but most of the time they have the best time either destroying something we accidently left on the kitchen counter, rearranging their beds around the kitchen, getting into the trash if we forget to put it up, if Lexi is lucky enough to escape she likes to tear apart the pillows on the couch and decorate our entire living room with white fuzz  We use chairs to keep her from jumping the kitchen gate! Boxers - intelligent little creatures huh :)

ME!!!!! :) Oops - I just realized you asked about being occupied when I'm not home. Obviously I can't occupy them if I'm not there! I actually have no idea what they do while I'm not there. They are always laying on the couch when I come in looking quite pleased with theirselves and looking very innocent angelicon. I'm not asking any questions....

We usually leave radios on for Junior- he really likes classical music or talk radio. We also make sure that there are a lot of milkbones and chew toys. The big thing was to make sure that if it gets dark before we get home (winter) that we leave lights on for him.. otherwise he goes crazy in the dark

Definitely kongs. I have two dogs Bruno (male fawn boxer) and Minnie Me (female miniture pinscher). They are both crated during the day while we work but I come home for an hour at lunch. Any time they go into the crate I give them their kongs filled with treats and believe me they ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM. All I have to do is mention the word and they practically fight to get in their houses. They get so excited that they get confused and try to get in each others crate (easy for Minnie NOT for Bruno). The opening on the kongs are pretty small so it takes them a while to get them clean. I definitely recommend them. I fill them with kibble and them seal the tops w/ peanut butter....Hummmmm....Hmmmmmm

Brit is occupied by a near empty peanut butter jar. ( the plastic ones) she will carry that around and work at getting the last out of the jar. She also hides it for later in the couch cushions, bed pillows, closet or wherever she thinks no one will find it. This can last for days. LOL

tugger, that is so funny. Just the other day I gave Spencer a near empty jar of peanut butter. He had this too good to be true expression and tried to sneak away (I was like, I GAVE it to you, you don't have to run and hide!!).

Other than that, Nikki is an angel when I am gone and Emma will find any paper she can and shread it!
