Only thing I've found so far...

BALLOONS!!!

OMG... ahahhaa Victoria will crouch and bark and whine and run away... it's almost hysterical!! And because I have 3 young kids who LOVE balloons it's very hard.... LOL

Found out tonight (at my brother's going away party) that his roommate's boxer is also VERY afraid of balloons.... wonder if it is a color thing?? the floating thing??

I just don't know but I think it's hysterical that 2 boxers have the same 'fear' and react in the same way.

We try very hard not to have balloons in the house, or to keep them in bedrooms with the door shut, so as not to terrorize our sweet furbaby... :)

Yes, your little 'experiment' with Crown does sound cruel and grossly insensitive. Why would you wish to subject your pup to such stress? How do you think you would feel if you were cornered and surrounded by spiders/snakes/whatever your phobia or fear may be?

If you wish to desensitize him just leave a bag casually lying around so that he may approach or avoid it as he wishes.

Dogs' fears are no funnier than the fears, rational or irrational, that we humans feel.

Gunner: Loud thunder claps, the kind that even make me jump. He also has a small dislike for ballons but he doesn't run from them when he sees them, only when one gets too close.

Quinsi is only 10 weeks old so it is hard to tell what he is afraid of. I thought he was terrified of the vacuum till the last time I used it and he was ready to 'kill' it. The only thing that Quinsi seems afraid of is when Gunner starts barking at someone knocking at the door. Quinsi runs the other way. I am hoping this is only because gunner is the dom and Quinsi is worried he did something wrong

Fireworks/Gunshots/Nailguns.

These noises scare Mason to death! Mason takes the flea approach which is scary since he runs and will not look where he is going! This is how the dog sitter lost him a few years back. I am going to buy a CD with fireworks on it to help desensitize him. I'll let you know if it works.

Emma is sooo scared when I shake the new trashbag out to put it in the kitchen trash barrel. She runs away.

She is also petrified of my BF when he has his motorcycle helmet on. It is so sad, when she sees him she books it. He'll take it off, she'll calm down and then he'll put it back on to show her that it is only him and she books it again. It is so sad...

i don't really know exactly what would scare zeus. sudden noises do scare him, but not out of his wits. the zippo lighter or cigarrettes for that matter, also makes him back off (i noticed that at a friends house when we were outside barbqueing and someone lit one up). but i don't think anything's ever scared him enough to go hide. i know when my husband gets mad at him for tearing something of his up (and it's usually my husbands stuff..haha!!) and he starts yelling at him, zeus tucks his nub under and runs to hide behind me. but other than that, i don't think anything scares him really bad.

THIS IS FUNNY...

yes, my baby is scared of balloons also, but his biggest fear is:

PICTURES

I can hold up any pictures(meaning a regular photograph from a camera) and he goes nuts. He starts crying, running, he won't even let me get within ten feet of him as long as I have a picture in my hand.

I think its wierd.
Anyone else go through this?
Someone try it and give me the results!!!

We carried Daisy with us to the 4th of July celibration at the fair grounds so she could watch the fireworks. we parked my truck miles away and had chairs in the bed, she was fine until they did the grand finale.

Grunt has never displayed any real fear of anything...yet, but he will not go near wires of any kind. I don't know if it's because he has heard no a zillion times when he was younger, or whether he is afraid of them. When a ball or toy has rolled by a "wire-y" place, like under the computer table, or behind a chair where a floor lamp is plugged in, he will not go there. He whines for me to get it. Or is this just a ploy to see mom crawling around on her hands and knees for him?!!

Bodie is similar to El28's Boxer. He runs from the vacuum, but never far...he has to be able to see it so he can get a little courageous at times and venture near...just to run away again. However, he chases the quad runner, motorcycles, even swam after a loud boat in the Lake Havasu channel. My wife was walking him at the time and Bodie was so determined to catch the boat Salena had to go into the water, clothes and all, and swim after him to bring him back...he was stopping for anything...and with the no wake zone in the channel apparently he was catching the boat. The friend she was walking the dogs with took pictures of the two of them. My wife in the water in her clothes chasing Bodie....we all still laugh about to this day. Jezzabelle, our rescued Boxer, isn't afraid of anything, that we know of yet.
