What is wrong with Jake??

This was my first time to read this thread. I am so sorry about Jake. I will keep him in my prayers. I will be sending poitive boxer vibes.

Thanks guys - sooo much. Thanks for the tip Bar B - I will definatley give it a try. I gave him some raw hamburger meat (no kibble) this morning and he vomited it up along with his antibiotics. Raw hamburger meat is something he usually loves. I called the vet and he told us to stop both of the antibiotics immediately. Jake's fever has been back too - it's 103. Not as high as before, but still worrisome. We called around a few vets today trying to squeeze an appointment in for a second opinion. The earliest we can see anyone is next week - unless we go to the Emergency. We called the Emergency tonight and they feel that our vet is doing all the right things. Unless Jake's fever peaks above 104, we should wait it out. Oh my gosh...this is so tough....

Oh,I'm so very sorry to hear all this bad news! I just now read this post for the first time. SEnding very best wishes and healing vibes your way. You must be just sick with worry. I wish I knew some answers for you. All I can do is wish you ALL the best. Please keep posting updates. We all care very much!

Just caught this thread and I want to add my prayers and positive vibes for poor Jake. I almost was sure it was distemper after reading you first post. I lost one to it many years ago, and head shaking was one of her symptoms along with leg weakness. I was relieved to hear it was ruled out.
I hope they can find out something soon, I know how worried you must be.

Update on our baby
Our little Jake is in the best hands right now. The vet had finally thrown in the towel and referred us to UC Davis (near Sacramento, CA) on Friday. When we called, UC Davis told us that we would need to wait until Monday to bring him in to the emergency because all of their equipment (MRI etc) would be down over the weekend. Jake was having a difficult time breathing on Saturday morning so we rushed over (3 hour drive) early anyway. Six hours in the waiting room paid off because within minutes of looking him over, they found that his little lungs were not oxygenating his blood well. They put him in a hyperbaric chamber feeding lots of 02 and he became very stable. They belived he was suffering from heart disease, but after the cardiologist examined him, his little heart looked great. Now they are focusing on his lungs. At the top of thier list, they believe it is lung disease - which in some cases is treatable with steroids). It could also be a severe viral or bacterial infection in the lungs or it may be chronic bronchitis. They will also test him for heart worms and sample his poop for parasites - just to rule it out. The bottom of their list is lung cancer. Unfortunatley, we had to leave him there and will not be able to see him for a few days. The vet and all of the students are so wonderful - they called and said that Jake keeps giving them too many kisses. He is wagging his tail and making so many friends. I belive in my heart that Jake knows that these people are there to make him better. I am missing him terribly right now - but I know that he is comfortable and that is all that matters.
