Sidda1018

Super Boxer
We switched to Wellness (chicken) in May and I have noticed that Sidda has MORE gas! We love the improvements in her coat and the quality of the food. But I think gas and bowel movements definately increased a bit...pppuuu!
I am going to try the yogurt too.

Someone mentioned Beano and GasX...I saw a bottle at the pet store labeled GasX and on the front was none other than a boxer with his head hanging...lol. I haven't tried the product though.

Ive had vets who have said that dogs with high protien diets can often expirence more gas than usual. Its not really to worry about however the above suggestions are good ones.

Good luck and dont worry you can hold your breath :P

Beano Works!

I thought about using Beano with my first boxer...his gas just about forced the whole household into wearing gas-masks! Yeah, he farted, slobbered, and drooled...and I loved him anyway.

Years later we adopted Zeus. We brought this handsome teen home at approx. 1.5 years old. What a difference! NO SLOBBER - Zilch. NO DROOL (except when the food bowl is presented ;) ) and...yes,folks, it's true, NO GAS!!!

We kept him on a regular diet of what the rescue had fed him. And still, for months...NO FARTS (at least nothing that would clear a room)

Then, six months later, with no warning, no change in diet...it happened...the REAL STINKERS! Bombs were going off! I'm convinced the neighbors could smell them from our living room!

We lived with it, accepting it was "just another boxer trait" and we'd gladly take all his "good Boxer traits" with this one nasty flaw!

This spring, after living with us for nearly a year, he had an allergic reation to all the pollen and grasses in our area. On the way out of the vet's office with a slew of lotions, potions and antibiotics, the vet tech stopped me to tell me just one more thing.

He said I may want to give Zeus a little yogurt with his pills because they have a tendency to CAUSE GAS!

I immediately turned around, slammed the pill vial on the counter and screatched..."Are you kidding me? HIS GAS IS ALREADY ABOUT TO KILL US!!!!!!"

The vet tech suggested giving Zeus Beano. I had thought of it before, never really thinking it was a "good mom" thing to do. Now, since it came recommended from the "vet's office," I walked right next door, I did not stop...I did not pass "Go"...I did not collect $200...I marched right up the pharmacy aisle at the grocery store and bought some.

I am here to tell you.
Beano works!
Beano saved my olfactory system!

Every meal, Zeus gets 5 drops of liquid Beano on his food. NO GAS! EVER! NOT KIDDING! There is always a full bottle in our pantry.

I will postpone going to the grocery store for many things (milk, ice, bread) but NEVER Beano! I'd get to the store through flood, fire, or famine if we're out of Beano!

You know what causes the worse gas attack ever at our house???

One day my little Courage knocked a whole take out container full of chinese stir fried collard greens... and proceed to eat the whole thing...

She had the most stinking, sickening, throw up causing farts ever!!!!

i had to read this post outloud to my boyfriend because if asia is laying in the hall at the top of the stairs (basically in the middle of the house), no matter where we are, her gas is a major killer!

mark gets upset and looks at her like shes nuts (but of course loves her anyway in spite of her horrible gas) but i've learned to just laugh.

she absolutely has the stinkers where she has to get up and walk away, we usually beat her to it though...as soon as one of us go 'ewwwwww and start laughing, we walk out of the room before we need to put something over our mouths or over asia's behind!!!

Just adding my 2cent's on this subject.

After joining BW I learned about better nutrition for Cami and switched her over to one of the listed Whole Dog Journal selections.

After about 2 weeks I decided that this food, no matter how good it was didn't smell the greatest when leaving her bottom.
I located the list again and chose another one of the foods from the list, (eagle pack holistic select), and lo-and-behold now her "poots" are odor-free and are few and far between.

Just goes to show you that all of their systems are not created equal and by trying a different quailty food may just do the trick.
