What is the age of the oldest boxer you've known or met?

my oldest boy is 11 years, if he makes it he'll be 12 at the end of may.
since this fall, he has slowly lost most of the use of his back legs, I have seen this before in a black lab, and the vet said there was nothing you can do, it's almost like he is a partial parapeligic, I have to use a scarf supporting him around his waist to take him for a walk outside so he can use the bathroom, with out my assistance he will fall down repeatedly. his front legs are strong, and you can tell he puts all his weight on them, cause his back legs are so weak. anybody else ever see this? the only thing I noticed before this fall was a soreness in his rear left leg when it got cold, or after heavy exercise. but that usually resolved in a day or two.
I have talked to a vet about coming out to put him down, but I love him, and haven't been able to do it yet.

My Striker had similar symptoms. My vet tried treating his thyroid with medication, but that only increased his water intake and resulted in him having to urinate more often. She the vet said he had a degenerate spine disorder in other words as she explained it to me the messages from his brain were no longer being transmitted to his lower body. He knuckled his feet so much I had to put heavy gauze over the top of his paws and wrap them with duck tape or else his feet would bleed.Near the end he could no longer hold his bowels and the stools were loose and runny. In retrospect I should have had him PTS much sooner then I did.I was hoping for a miracle and truly didn't see him for how bad he really was. He was my baby and I didn't want to let him go. I had no clue shivering was a sign of pain and when I found this out it was the only thing left for me to do. I could not allow him to live in pain any longer. Our vet came to the house on a Sunday afternoon to help Striker cross to the bridge.
I get a lump in my throat just thinking about my Striker. I am so sorry for you Alaska. I know how difficult your next few months will be.

Roxei our white boxer is 12, her mom lived to be 14yrs. Were keepin our fingers crossed. Thank goodness never any big health problems, a couple of eye ulcers, nothing really, she has her senior moments, but, I'll tell you she rules the roost!! Maya is 4 and she puts her right in her place. She is definetly the alfa dog. All I can say, and I know sometimes it doesnt matter we have always fed them premium dog food and cookies. Bottled water, exercise and way to many kisses, Lol

I volounteer for Boxer Rescue Canada and right now we have an applicant who has a 15 yr old female boxer!!!!!!! Sadly she is not feeling so well lately but she's had a very full boxer life, I'm sure

Going for the record

I currently have a female Boxer named Scarlet who just turned 14 and going strong(thank G-d). She can't hear really anymore and is semi blind in one eye. she still goes for her daily walks and still has the energy to bother us all at dinner, hopefully I will be telling u the same thing two years from now.

My Gus will be twelve in a few days and we hope he still has many years left in him. He's slowed down a little but not much and is still as mad as ever. The only thing we notice different about him these days is when he sleeps he's sound and nothing wakes him. Has selective deafness but don't they all when they are enjoying themselves. His grand sire was still being used at stud when he 13 1/2 years old.

Our first boxer girl Cinders was 14 when we passed her and Brit was 12 when died.
I have big plans for Tug! She is 18 weeks going on 30 years!

Our Ruby was definitely 15, maybe 16 when she passed. We adopted her from a family that kept her tied up in the backyard when she was at least a year, maybe a little older. Ruby started having seizures and I had to make the decision to have her put to sleep.
She was the sweetest dog and after all those years it took me years to get over losing her. So many things reminded me of her. The thing that took the longest to get over was; whenever I made french toast for breakfast, I always gave Ruby the little bit of egg and milk mixture left in the bowl, (she loved it) and for a very long time, I would start to call her name, as always, when I made the last piece of french toast.
Our Duquessa now is 8 years old and I'm hoping that she lives to Ruby's age. She is very healthy and active still so it's possible.
