What goes best with a boxer

As crazy as this sounds, I am considering another dog. I am curious about what may work out best since I already have two boxers. They are great and I would just get another, but my couch is getting full. I have been given the OK by DH to add a smaller dog. My choices so far are French Bulldog, English Bulldog, or Boston Terrier. Does anyone here have any of those along with their Boxer, and how does that work out. I also have an almost 9 year old daughter, and a 2 1/2 year old daughter. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I do plan to wait until the spring to get one, so I am wanting to start looking for breeders.

Hi. We have a BT named Scampy. He is great! Check out my gallery for some cute pix. Anyway, a BT is really a Boxer in a smaller body. You will find that a lot of Boxer people also have BT. They get along great and they play together all of the time. They compliment each other perfectly. Good luck on your decision!

Both of yours are beautiful.

The only concern I have is that my two Boxers play rough. Not mean, just rough. However, they are still very young. Does it seem that your Boxer is more calm with a smaller dog? I know my Boxers know the difference in my children as far as ages. They are very gentle with the 2 1/2 year old. Do you think it will be the same with a smaller dog such as a Boston? There is always supervision, so that will not be a problem. I just want to be 100% sure of my decision. Like I said earlier, I love my Boxers and would even consider a third, but DH says NO. So, I am really looking for a smaller Boxer, and a Boston is high on my list. I just have no personal experience with them.

This is our second pair of Boxer and BT combo. Both pairs have been awesome. They love each other, snuggle together and play rough and tough together. Our Boston can really hold her own, all 14 pounds of her compared to Cooper's 48 pounds! He gets a bit rough with her, but she always puts him in her place. She is the alpha around here. (Same with our last pair, the BT was the alpha) The thing is with Bostons, they don't realize they are small. When we are not home for long periods of time they are each in their own kennels side by side. Our last pair were both out together laying around the house. But for now, Cooper and Libby are too young and mischievious to be trusted. In our opinion, they make a great combo! :)

I also would go with a BT if I was getting another breed. They are small but tough little buggers and i've seen them play rough with Boxers and hold their own. They also have the energy level to keep up. :) If you can't decide then just get another Boxer! How about a white one! :D

Well, I want a white Boxer. I have been approved by two rescue agencies, and I still look there every day. I think I should have a Boxer of every color, and a white would make my color combo complete. DH is really not going for it. But, if the right one came along, I would just get it anyway and deal with the consequences later. But, it sounds like a Boston is my next best bet.

I am one of those people that said I would never have a dog in my house and now look at me. I have gone nuts and fallen for these crazy Boxers. They are just too much fun.

I guess I will just have to wait and see what happens. I am also one of those go with the flow people, whatever is meant to join our family will come along somehow.

If I were to get a smaller dog, I would get a pug. I love their cute little faces (obviously I have a smooshy face addiction!!!) but they are also said to be great with small children and are pretty tough too!!!

I have a BT and Boxer combo and its great. They do awesome together and Nakai the Boston is also the alpha. They play rough all the time and Nakai holds his own very well. I couldn't ask for a better combo of breeds.:) Good luck making a decison, and am looking forward to hearing what you decide and seeing pics of your new baby.:)

As I read everybody's reply that owns a BT, I couldn't help but laugh. Scampy who is younger than Joe and weighs 17 pounds vs. Joe's 75 is truly the alpha in our house too! It is so funny. They really do not think they are a small dog. Scampy just continues to crack me up because he is such a tough guy. When we got Scampy, he weighed only 3.5 pounds. He was never let loose around Joe until he got a bit bigger. I was afraid Joe would hurt him by accident. However, much to my surprise, Joe was gentle with him.....until he grew bigger. The two of them play so crazy in the house, I have to put them outside to save my furniture!!!

Bailey is a miniature doxie but I can tell you that Beau plays completely differently with small dogs than he does big ones. He's a bit rough with big dogs but he's so gentle with the smaller dogs at the park. He'd only been around boxers when I brought him home at 9 months but he quickly learned that he had to play differently with his smaller brother. I wouldn't worry too much about yours being too rough with a small dog. I think they learn that there are limits to playing with the smaller ones! Good Luck! (Oh, I personally think you should get a white boxer...I'm a little partial. I'm pretty sure my next boxer will be another white one. There's just something about them :))
