Last Friday, my husband and I got ourselves our first Boxer. He is a fawn, male who is just about 7 weeks old as of today. I have been reading the forums about crate training because he HATES it. I read that putting the puppy in with a special treat that they only get when in the crate is helpful. I want to stuff a Kong with something special for his crate time but don't know what to put other than his regular food or treats. Any and all suggestions would be great! It just breaks my heart hearing him howl and cry and carry on every time he's in the crate! Thanks so much everyone.

I used to make a mini omlette for them 
I would take an egg and whip it up, put a little cheese and some meat (whatever is in the fridge). Mix it all together and pop it it the microwave. Let cool and stuff kong, you can even freeze this mixture so it lasts longer. My crew LOVED it.
Layers also work good: PB, banana's, kibble, PB, diced applies, etc.

I buy natural peanut peanut butter with no sugar or salt for the dogs' kongs. I also stuff kongs with kibble mixed with yogurt and freeze them. Works well when I crate one of them at my training club while taking class with the other.

I plug the small hole with peautbutter then blend a banana peanutbutter and water, fill it up and plug the other side with more peanutbutter then freeze. My kids go nuts for this. There is so much more you can do too. Anything you can think of thatd good for them give it a try.

I have used several different combinations, but Balboa's favorite seems to be mashed banana and peanut butter. My favorite, too, because it doesn't get runny/messy if it thaws before he finishes it. I mix together, throw them in the freezer and they're ready whenever I need them. In fact he has three different size Kongs to fit the situation.

How much peanut butter are you putting in the Kong? I have a orka jack, she plays with it for a little bit and then is done after a few minutes. I stuff the 4 sides with kibble. She usually gets a couple out rather quick and the others she can't get out, she licks them for a couple minutes and is done

Make the kongs easy for her at first. In no time she will be a pro.
I stuff Kongs on Sunday. I clean out the fridge and layer anything that is safe for the dogs into it. I layer it so there are different textures and tastes to work through. About halfway through, I stuff a biscuit in sideways to make it harder to empty the kong. Then I fill the rest with layers and stuff another biscuit in sideways under the ridge and then freeze. I use very little peanut butter to fill the big hole. The little hole gets a piece of dog food shoved into it.
The dogs get a variety of foods and it leaves very little wasted leftovers.
With your girl being just a baby, you need to be careful that you don't upset her tummy but as she gets older, you will be able to use a bigger variety of things.

I found a recipe for a mix of peanut butter and plain yogurt that freezes well. It's about a 50-50 split, and you soften the PB in the microwave first so it's like a batter almost. You can put that in the kong alone or mix it with other things like kibble, etc. I also use the lower fat/low sugar peanut butter.
Other things I've used - broken up hard treats, turkey slices, cheese, mashed potatoes.

Sammy also loves the peanutbutter! I found the best thing if you want something that will last a long time. I put busybones or pedigree jumbone in his kong. They are a little hard to get in them but Sammy will not put his kong down untill he gets it all out. It takes him at least an hour to finish it.
