We just got our boxer puppy 2 days ago. When we first found her we decided to name her Bella. As time passed, the name became less attractive. We told our daughter that her new puppy would be named Bella, but changed it 3 days before we got her. We changed it to Mika (Mee-ka).

Anytime anyone asks our 2 year old what the puppys name is...she says Bella. My mom says she looks like a Bella, not a Mika. AND my husband admitted tonight that he doesn't like Mika anymore...that he likes Bella.

Help me out! How do I convince him to keep it as Mika. I've called her Mika so much that she perks up when I say it now!!!!

I had the same trouble my 3yr old son had his heart set on George but the rest of us liked Jake,we told him that our puppies brother was called George and that we liked the name but as his brother was already called George they couldnt both be called George. As it turned out it was actually true!We now have an 8 week old puppy called Jake, Who's beautiful!Hope this helps!

Congrats on your new little girl Fur babie beericon
I like both your choices... Mika & Bella , Bella is a pretty popular female boxer name as there are several members on BW with Bellas..But as the meaning of Bella being beautiful.. I'm sure thats why its so popular.. Not sure the meaning of Mika??
Maybe you can call her Mika Bella, Bella being her middle name ??? Kind of sounds like an Italian Movie star <G> or How about Mikala (Me Kay La) kind of a combo of the two?? (sort of) I know its a tough choice with naming a puppy. sometimes you think you like a name and it just doesn't seem to fit their personality or someone in the family doesn't like your pick for some reason or another.. Good Luck She is still young and you've only had her for two days so I think you can prob change now pretty easily.. and Teaching her name or a new name with food and calling her and then when she comes give her a reward and lots of praise such as tiny pieces of cheese or tiny pieces of hot dog as a treat works great.. Best wishes on your new choice no matter what you choose she will be your baby and a wonderful additon to your family.

Let us know what you choose. ~ Vickie

My four year old daughter was totally set on naming our little girl Bella also! So when my husband was less than thrilled with the name, we finally decided on Zoe. Abby was not at all impressed until I suggested that her name be Zoe Bella, and to our surprise she thought it was a fantastic idea! (Sigh) what we won't do to see a smile on our kids' face...We, however, do not have the little pup yet! This weekend she will be 8 weeks though!

Thanks everyone for the suggestions!

I think we are going to stick with Meika (we changed the spelling) but also throw Bella on for her middle name :::giggle::: It's too cute, why not?! That way everyone wins. She'll be Meika, but when she gets in trouble (and the middle name always comes out) she'll be Meika Bella.

I need to figure out how to post pics now!
