Boxer Pal
ok, i have been living in my house for 20 years, and i love it. However our neighbor has lived there longer than we have. He is a very nice man, but he breeds schnauzers, i think that's how you spell it. they are pretty loud, and they get our nerves sometimes, but we don't mind to much. Recently our baby, Cassius, has learned to jump our 6 ft fence. He goes over and plays with the neighbors dogs. He gets mad because his dogs are worth about $3,000 each and he doesn't want a boxer/sch... mix, neither do we. So we put up chain link over the wood fence, and he jumped that. Then we put up a chain link fence a foot in front of the other, he some how got over both of them. Now we have him on a run that goes from either side of our yard. this works for little except that he has figured out how to get off the run. I am not really sure what else we can do. I would feel bad putting him in a kennel because we have another dog that would be out in the yard. so i'm out of ideas? he is like houdini!

Is your dog fixed? If not that might be why he keeps trying to get over there. That would be the first thing I would do if I were you. From what I have read, females put off a scent when they are in heat and that is probably why he keeps trying to get over there. Now, if he is fixed maybe he just wants to play :)

Our fence is getting put up this week and I am nervous about Duke jumping it because it can only be 4' tall. We are going to have to be out there with him at all times until he is trained and we make sure we can trust him.

Others will have more advice.

Good Luck!

Is your male fixed? Intact males will do just about anything to get to a female in heat. Aside from the obvious risk of an unwanted pregnancy, neutering your male has many many health advantages.

Until he's fixed, you can temporarily solve this problem by keeping a very close eye on him while he is outside. When you are gone, he needs to be indoors where you can ensure his safety.

fencing problem

I had fencing problems too, although Skeeter is a female and fixed, She just loves the neighbors Lab (also a female) we let them play together all the time when we are both home. I have a 5 ft chain link fence and a huge back yard, but Skeet still got out and jumped THEIR fence to play with her, so next we put a steel cable through the fence so it does not slack and she cannot slip under, well that didnt work either, because she figured out how to get around that too. So I asked my trainer what was the best solution she suggested a hot wire and I told her that was out of the question, I have kids outside all the time and they would get hurt, so she said get an invisable fence that you run underground and put it on the inside of my chainlink so Skeeter does not even go near the fence. And after about two or three times of going near it she does not leave the yard. We also did the front yard just incase the kids leave the front door open, that way she is safe from everything!!
Good luck to you, I know it is SO fusterating!
