Tugsmommy, I forgot to mention something that was very helpful to me with my puppy.
I found that having an adjustable snap-on collar was the best for me. Especially if you are crate training, since you don't want to keep a collar on while they are in the crate, this is very easy to snap on fast so you can quickly get them outside for potty. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE WHEN THEY ARE LITTLE.
Also, even though I really like leather collars, I have found that in the puppy stage, on one hole they will be too loose, and the next will seem snug. The adjustables just work better for puppies.
