Completely Boxer Crazy
Congrats on your new baby! How exciting!

Legend LOVED the fleece toys with the squeakers when he was a puppy. He had one shaped like a man and we called him "Fleece Man". HOWEVER, when they grow up, they tend to shred soft toys to get the squeakers out, so neither of mine can have plush toys anymore.

I'd also invest in a puppy Nylabone. They're small and VERY good with teething. You'll have to take it away when he's bigger because eventually he'll be able to swallow it. Just move up to the "Wolf" or "Souper" size when he's an adult.

Best of luck with your new baby!

This little boy is my baby. We got told recently that I am unable to have childern SO...the puppy is my child. I also have a 3 year old cocker spaniel who is the little love bug. I know she is going to be very upset that mommy's lap has to be shared now.

frisbees, frisbees, and more frisbees...the way Bella plays with them, I wish i could buy stock in frisbees...when we first got Bella she liked squeeker toys...but now all she wants is her frisbees...she loves to stomp on them with her front paws and she loves to chase them around the yard...It is actually quite funny...

Shotze's Mom

The main thing I would suggest is a blanket of their very own. Shotze gets in the middle of the bed and scrathes mine and tries to dig to china. Had she had her own she could have used it. My grandmothers boston terrier is very attached to her blanket and drags it whereever she goes. At this age your new baby will be sleeping most of the time, but make sure to purchase a knuckle bone and a few bully sticks for when he hits the chewing stage. :)

Paper towels, plastic bags, infinite patience, and lots of love.

Soft fleece toys are good, too.
Infinite Pateince is a must! They are like toddlers with razor sharp teeth and twice the energy! I wouldn't trade my puppy for the world! :D

Reading everyone's posts about getting their puppies this weekend makes me wish we had our's already. Our baby boy won't be ready to come home until May 8. It'll be great having so many members with puppies so close in age. There will be lots of questions and stories to come I'm sure.

We have some items from our shopping list already.* I've read some threads about what brand of food to give to the dog, although I've not quite decided yet.

*Items previously bought were for a rescue Boxer. Breeder of rescue Boxer promised us the dog and even told us to order her flea/tick medicine so it'd be there when she arrived. It's been over a month since the date we were supposed to get her (and my last call placed to them) without any word from them. We gave up and kept searching for a Boxer, finding a wonderful boy from a great breeder.

Hi Tugsmommy.

I have a 16 wk. old boy named Ramses, along with nine and ten year old Boston Terriers. We have several large baskets of toys.

So far, Ramses' favorite toy is one of the baskets LOL. But all of the babes really like the edible nylabones that come in many flavors: barbecued chicken, bacon, peanut, banana, cheese, strawberry, carrot, etc. And luckily, they don't chew them into dangerous bits, but they gnaw on them for days or weeks. They're not too wild about the regular nylabones.

Of course the kong is popular. (You will learn that it's only popular when stuffed with great treats like cheese, peanut butter, etc.) My dogs also love this hollow bone I found that is stuffed with cheese and bacon bits. (It came that way.) But a word of caution: Ramses at 16 wks. still has a very touchy digestive system. A lot of things give him loose stools, so I have to be careful.

All of my dogs really like the soft latex squeek toys. Once again I am very lucky because, believe it or not, they do not destroy them and break them into dangerous small pieces, but they play tug with them and squeek them to make noise. Incredibly, they seem to last a long time. They are not so fond of the harder plastic squeek toys.

Ramses likes plush toys a lot, but unfortunately Blackie, my male Boston Terrier, felt a need to SHOW HIM HOW IT'S DONE. I'm not sure that Ramses can rip them himself yet, but he knows how to tear the stuffing out once Blackie rips them. Mary Jane joins in, and this seems to be a source of great fun. (Gotta love em.) But somehow I still can't resist throwing away money on them. They got a really soft Sponge Bob for Easter that was destroyed in record time.

There is a good plush toy they like named Dr. Doris. This is made by Fat Cat. These toys are zany and humerous, and they are made more of a canvas fabric. There are several kinds; a referee, a cat, a snake, an aligator, Bart Simpson, Crusty the Clown. Although Dr. Doris wasn't a great success at first, she is quickly growing in popularity. And these toys are definitely more durable than the plush type. They also contain squeekers. (Ramses is playing with Dr. Doris even as we speak.)

Puperoni has been a great help in training Ramses. It's easy to break in small pieces also. He has learned sit, shake (give me paw), and down. We are working on roll over. OH MY GOD HE'S SO CUTE I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!.
(Forgive me.)

Okay then. That's my two cents.

Have a great time with your new baby. I know you'll love him.

Lori

P.S. If you ask my hubby, he'll tell you that I have more fun buying toys than the dogs have playing with them!!
