What are pin hips?

I'm really excited, I may have found a good breeder. I am going to see the puppy tomorrow about 2 hours away. I have a question for anyone that may know about this. She said she had pin hips done on the one puppy and also an Ecocardiogram. And this is why that puppy was more money. Is this usual procedure for a puppy and what are pin hips?
She didnt have anything done on the non- show puppy. I'd like to know what all this means before I go there. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Could she have said Penn Hips? You can get hips certified through Penn State and then you have a Penn Hip score, but I have never heard of anyone getting their pups' done. Hips can't be certified until the dog is 2.

If that isn't what she meant, then I am at a loss.

PennHip x-rays can be done at a much younger age than OFA, I believe they give a clearance at 16 weeks - this breeder may have just wanted to have preliminary information, which is never a bad idea though pretty uncommon.

Thanks Erica- You really do learn a lot along the way. I am not excited about the 2 1/2 hour drive, and that I won't be bringing him home, but I hope it's worth it. I spoke to the breeder this morning. She wants me to take the show flashy brindle for some reason, because I live close, and she would help me show him, ect...( which I am not sure I want to get myself into). Plus she said he may not be show quality, and would need time to tell? I really was ready for the plain brindle. I am going to go meet these little guys first. Then decide. Either way, she seems to be a good breeder. I may need more help after tomorrow. I'll keep you posted.
