Wetting the bed at night? HELP

My boxer is only 3 years old and recently starting to wet the bed when (and only when) she is sleeping???? Has anyone else's baby had this problem as such a young age???
We took her to the vet who noticed that she had a high fever and her PH level in her urine was extremely low but her blood work and stool came up fine. We put her on anti-biotics (Baytril) which pretty much kicked the fever but even after the fever was gone, her PH level in her urine was only slightly up, but is still lower than normal. She is still wetting the bed on occation and its only when she is sleeping and she doesnt even realize it happened. I feel so bad for her and also miss having her sleep with us on our bed at night. (selfish I know)
Thankfully, she is acting normal, still playful and silly but I have noticed a slight loss of appetite (more selective eating) and I'm sure she has loss some weight, has vomited occasionally, and drinks a ton of water.
My Vet seems stumped and said that we may have to put on her some type of medication that is usually for older dogs to help control their bladder, but I just dont seem to think thats what is the problem since its only when she is asleep. Because of the other symptoms such as fever, vomiting, and such, I just dont agree with his suggestion. I'm no doctor but I think it's something to do with her kidney/bladder. The only symptoms that I could find on this wonderful site that is even remotely close is something called Fanconi Syndrome.

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions on what could be wrong? Also, do you think I should take my baby to another vet for a second opinion?

My 3 1/2 month old puppy also wets when asleep - see my post "When cystitis is not cystitis".

Is your little girl speyed? Sometimes after speying they can get a involuntary incontinence but it can be controlled quite well by medication. I have heard of some young dogs like yours taking it but mostly it is when they get older.

Like you I am very upset over my puppy and what may be wrong with her.

Fingers crossed we both get sorted out and soon. Will say prayers for your little girl.

My moms little female toy fox terrier wet the bed all the time until she was about 2 1/2 yrs. old and still does occasionally. My mom said that the dog will wake up and move to a dry spot. Personally I wouldn't let the dog sleep with me anymore, but I guess a 10 lb dog doesn't have that big of a bladder. My mom also got a plastic sheet like the ones you put on little kids beds so it wouldn't soak through.

I would get a second opinion on the blood work - if she is getting sick, drinking excessively and has a loss of appetite to me that is a sign of something. My girl had kidney failure. She started out with the incontinence and was given meds for it. They did work but the doses needed to be upped occassionally. She then began to have the other symptoms - another vet diagnosed her with kidney failure. I wish for all the best for you and your baby. Well so far so good. The past two days her fever has left, her appetite has increased a lot but she still drinks a TON of water. The times we are home and she's napping, we havent seen her wet the bed except for a little dribble here or there. I have noticed that the bed she sleeps on during the day (while we are at work) is wet though so I fear she is still doing it on occasion while sleeping during the day. She still has two days left of antibiotics and after that I think, unless everything is gone, I think I'll take her back to the vet to have him look her over. As you all suggested, I'm leaning on taking her to get a 2nd opinion.

I'm pleased to see her eating very well and acting silly like usually but the excessive drinking of water and the bed wetting still makes me feel that it may be kidney problems. I'll just have to keep an eye on her and take it day by day. Thanks for the support.

The fact that she is drinking a lot of water would concern me. It could be spay incontinence which is fairly common however, I would talk with your vet about the possibilities of other things such as Cushings Disease (increased thirst and urination) or kidney disease (which if caught early is more manageable). I don't want to alarm you, I'm just suggesting you nudge your vet. Good luck!

my boxer also has this problem, we took her to the vets and they refered her onto a specialist and the problem she had was a severe kidney infection it actually destroyed about 60%of one of her kidneys she had all the same symptonms as your dog, try not to worry too much they said with my dog that the infection had come and gone of its own accord and thats what had damaged her kidney they didnt tell me what the infection was but the treatment that they have given her is a prescription renal diet that she must be kept on for the rest of her life absolutly no naughty treats at all as her body cant cope with it and some stuff called propalin syrup to help control the incontinence (although she does still have the occassional accident at night ). she was first diagnosed about 2.5 years ago she is now 5 and she leads a perfectly normal and happy life and has blood tests every 6 months just to monitor her.

follow up report

Well after her continuing to wet the bed, even after anti-biotics, we took her back to the vet. She was still drinking a lot of water but not at the pace as earlier. She is also eating a lot, no vomiting and is silly as ever so that was good to see. Just feeling her, she seems a little hot at times but no symptoms of her feeling bad so I am not too concerned. Well the vet took a precautionary xray, weighed her (55 lbs) which is fine as she was always the runt and the smallest boxer I've ever seen. The xray came up clean and we decided to put her on some medication to control her wetting the bed. After just ONE pill, she quit wetting the bed and now has had no bed wetting problems for two 1/2 days straight so we are delighted. I'm trying to monitor if she still drinks a lot of water as the vet suggested that if she continues to drink excessive water, he would want to do an ultra-sound on her. So far so good and I'll keep the forum posted if we have to take her back for the Ultrasound. Thanks for the support, it's appreciated more than you know!
