hi all! well the wife got the breed she liked and i got my childhood favorite. bubba the boxer is 10 weeks old now(had him since six) and saturday he met his 7 week fur brother mojoe a black doberman. its kinda funny the dobe is every bit the size of him! mojoe is finally breaking out of his shell and starting to initiate the play. at first he was stuck at my feet and intimidated and snappy towards bubba. bubba just wont leave him alone though. i have a question for the knowledgeable....... bubba almost always initiates play, hopping in,swinging the paws, and barking. he always straddle the dobe or jumps on his back. then the dobe flips bubba over and bubba lies there with his mouth open letting the dobe bite all over him.(more like mouthing no yelping or anything) when the dobe walks away bubba does it all over again. other than the barking bubble growls during play very little, unlike when he plays tug with me. is this somewhat normal? bubba at ten weeks is a very obedient sweetheart. sits, downs, speaks, rollover, comes(75%) and shakes.
he whines at the door to go potty(unless hes to busy playing and im not looking) and is adjusted well to his crate. and his face will make you give him treat after treat!
is maybe his playing behavior somewhat attributed to his good manners? we worked hard at not letting him bite what hes not supposed to. as much as he initiates it just seems he holds back. i dont want to create a monster im just trying to understand my babies behavior.
the dobe will sit there and look at you with a sense of nobility about him.
the boxer got the look of "hey it wasnt me its him......wheres my treat?"
its too much!
any insight would be great. thanks this is a great site!

Sounds to me like you have a pup that is going to have an all around great personality. The playing sounds just like how my 2 & 3 yr old play. My female is the alpha of the pair and she will initiate most of the play but once they start at it they kind of take turns with the rolling over and mouth fiting. We have a Dobe in our Obed Class that my male plays with and they are great together. I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds like normal play. He may turn out to be a submissive happy go lucky, get along with anybody kind of dog. Once they get older they will figure their status out as to who is alpha among them. Good Luck with the pups and enjoy it while they're still little.

They can sound quite fierce, can't they! As long as they both seem willing to come back for more, they're doing fine.
