I am going to my bfs cousins wedding in the summer..and I have no idea what to give as a wedding gift.. Ive never given one before. The only weddings Ive been to, I was in... and I was the flower girl.. so you know I was only 4 or 5 . So i have no idea what is usually given.

Gift Ideas

I just got married 3 months ago and I can tell you that the best gifts to give are ones off the couple's bridal registry. Closer to their shower date, you'll get information regarding where they are registered unless your family is old-fashioned (like my husband's) and prefer not to disclose that information in the shower invitation. Because this was our case, our mothers and brothers and sisters passed along our registry information to guests.

We got married a year ago and I agree with Makena's mom...anything off the registry is great. Money is also a safe gift.

We started building a house right around the time we got married, so EVERYTHING was due at one time (we also paid for the wedding), so it really helped. Some other neat ideas....a weekend at a bed and breakfast or cooking lessons...something creative...and really you can't go wrong if you get something off the registry.

I agree with sticking to the list. When I got married, I registered for things I really needed like kitchen towels, silverware, etc. I had nothing for the kitchen pratically. Alot of people gave me their own elaborate gifts but I really needed those dish towels My point is, even if it seems silly and small (as this is what I was told by some people), still get it. They would not have registered for it otherwise and it takes alot of the guess work away

Ok.... so im guessing a wedding registry is somewhere they get an account or something and put down things they want?....not a clue

Yes you're right. They would just go to the store of their choice and basically go through it and mark down everything they want. Then others can go to the store and pull up a list of their items but most can access it via the internet. I guess I just assumed they would have registered somewhere but if they haven't, then useful gifts are towel sets, gift certificates, frames, cash, etc. IMO, you never can have too many towels. I prefer my white ones because no matter what gets on them (toothpaste stains and paw prints ) I can always wash them with chlorine bleach and they come out gleaming white.

Yes, the happy couple go to a store they like. They write down everything they like or need. This all gets entered into a computer at the store. When people go to the store to buy the gifts, they can request a print out of the list. When an item is bought, it shows up on the list that someone bought it. That way you don't end up with 5 coffee pots when you only need one. Pretty cool, huh? When my sister got married 7 or 8 years ago that's how it worked anyway.

Seeing as you live in Canada, it's a pretty safe bet that they are registered at the Bay!!!! I think it's mandatory for all Canadian registrants to go to the Bay They have fun machines where you go and type in the persons name, it gives you a print out, tells you how many of everything has already been purchased and how much it costs. I usually just point to the one in my price range and ask the saleslady to get it for me. If they have registered already, you can also check online to see what's there... just google the bay! :D It's best to do it somewhat early as things tend to get bought up (especially the less expensive items) and watch out for sales at the bay... kitchen ware and household items that are typically on a registry will go on sale for as much as 40% off from time to time.

Lol i work for Hudsons Bay Company go Zellers! ANyway thats pretty cool I know Wal-mart has one...and She is the manager of a Walmart so Im thinking she may be registered there... Ill have to ask his Mom... All I know is I think its going to be a dog wedding . Kingston is going to be over run with us and our dogs... Therell be me and rob with Cinnamon.. his parents withtheir Rottis Led and Zeppelin.. the bride and groom have an evil aussie cattle dog names Sadie. The brides parents have a mutt named Scruffy and a chocolate Lab named Sam... and an uncle has 2 dogs which are an unknown breed named Buffy and Shadow...now to find a hotel that allows dogs..... The wedding isnt until the end of June so I have plenty of time to figure it out. Theyve been living together for about 4 or 5 yrs I think.. at least 3 yrs anyway so Im not sure what all they need for their house.
