Super Boxer
Yesterday we were supposed to meet my friend Peter, his wife, and their puppy, a Golden Retriever, at a local dog park. The kids and I got there first and we were the only people (or dog) there. After a few minutes a man, his daughter and a black lab (male) arrived. My two barked like crazy, very protective and scared the heck out of this guy. My kids and I moved our pups away and he asked me if the dogs were aggressive. I said no - just very loud. The three played nicely for a few minutes and then Peter arrived. Another man snuck in at that point with his dog - a male. My two again went nuts - barking and jumping on the fence. Peter opened the second gate (it's a double gate system) with his pup’s leash on (I think this may be important) and Albert started nipping at Honey. They pulled her out, I apologized, and while they tried to calm their dog down I pulled Albert to the side to hold him. After a few minutes they walked back in (Honey still on a leash) and Daisy attacked her. Literally attacked the poor puppy - had her on the ground barking, snarling - it was nasty. I had Albert, I was calling my son (who did not hear me) and we finally got Daisy off of this poor dog - not more than 8 months old. One of the men screamed (as he walked towards me) "You need to take your F****** aggressive dogs out the park! Get out now! Your dogs are not welcome here!" Well, I was devastated. We got our stuff, apologized profusely to my friend and his wife and left. My son was furious, muttering under his breath but I mean, come on. Yes, we were cursed at but Daisy attacked another dog!
I can rationalize this - I know that she is a dog. I've read on BW about the pros and cons of dog parks and I took my chance. I know bad things can happen. But I've never seen Daisy act like that before. Was it because Honey was on lead? Because it was another female? Did Daisy just not like her? All I know for sure is I was so embarrassed and upset. I started crying as soon as we got in the car and I was a wreck for the rest of the day. I called Peter on his cell phone to apologize again. He told me that it was not needed - they are dogs and stuff happens. Honey was fine and having a great time. He suggested we try it another time. Oh no, I don't know if I can. I don't know if I can ever go back to that dog park again. Or any for that matter.
I was organizing a Boxer Bash for June at that same dog park. I am so afraid of Daisy attacking my BW friends’ pups I don't think I can go.
I really am torn - I know this happens but I feel like a bad mommy  Maybe we are just done with dog parks. She's got Albert, her backyard, and goes for her walks at home. Maybe that's all she can handle.
