I understand. It's VERY scary when that happens. The other day at the park I had to take my friends cocker spaniel out of a poodles mouth and the owner of the poodle bitched us out, b/c she thought we were full of it to accuse her dog of being aggressive (even though I had to pry the dog out of her dogs mouth). In that situation the cops were called, but only b/c the lady was a bitch and didn't takeresponsibility for the dogs actions and on top of it threatened us. You did the right thing in leaving and apologizing. Best of luck to you next time if you try.

update...

My friend Peter (who's dog Daisy went after) stopped by my desk yesterday. He said that he tried to stop by and see me 3x's last week but I wasn't at my desk. I was so embarrassed and he told me to cut it out! He was so sweet. He reiterated again that dogs are dogs and can be unpredictable. He said neither he nor his wife is angry at me or Daisy. He would really like to try it again when I am ready. I asked that next time he arrive first so Daisy does not feel territorial. He also mentioned the leash thing and said it was dumb of him to leave it on her.

And, (drum roll) - the man who yelled and cursed at me? His dog went after Honey not long after I left the park and had Honey pinned down by the neck. Go figure. Poor Honey!! So, I'm not excusing Daisy by any means but maybe this story will have a happy ending and I won't be traumatized anymore :D

Dogs will be dogs. However, I do get upset when dogs attack Beau because he doesn't fight back. If I didn't make him stay so close to me, who knows what could happen in the time it would take me to get to him. It seems as though he's the one that always gets attacked. I can't tell you how many times I've heard him yelping because yet another dog has nipped him or pinned him down. I understand how upset you were. I would NEVER curse the owner of a dog that became aggressive toward Beau. People bring their dogs to the park to socialize them and accidents happen. Anyone who takes his or her dog to a dog park should know that. I wouldn't stop going to the park if I were you-this from the owner of a frequently attacked dog-. I would just keep Daisy away from the entrance in the future so that she isn't able to reach a leashed dog. If you ever see the man at the park again and he says something about your aggressive dogs, just tell him to back off or he and his dog will be next!

dog park troubles

We used to take our girl boxer, Maizie (now 6) to the dog park weekly and she always did fine. We adopted our boy boxer, Jack 4 years ago who is 25+ bigger than Maizie and now Maizie feels it is her job to protect him from any dog that tries to play with him. We still take them to the park but we are kind of leary about Maizie because I had to pull a poodles head out of her mouth after the poodle was nipping at Jack's legs. (everyone was fine) The owner fortunately was very understanding that dog will be dogs and not like the rude man and the dog park. Another issue is the lead/leash when Jack is on his leash he can be quite agressive but taken off the leash he is the welcoming committee and Mr. Social of the dog park. After the poodle incident we started the dogs out at the PetsMart doggie day-camp and they did great so we worked up to the park again, but try to go when it is not as busy and then keep a really close eye on Maizie. We also had one other incident where Maizie was growling at someone while at the park and we had to go to the 'bad dog' side of the gate so Jack could finish out his playtime. I was humiliated and of course wondering what I did wrong for my sweet girl to act like this, but dont give up just ease back into the socializing and see what happens. Back yard play dates are a good place to start.

it sounds like daisy was establishing her dominance and the leash on honey had a lot to do with it. when dogs come into the dog park still on their leash, our boxer webber acts agressive, though he is the biggest goof. once their leash is off, he leaves them alone or even runs away. i'm so glad peter understood where you were coming from. when you're ready, give it another try...
