vomiting and lethargic

hi everyone - i have a 1year old and she has been throwing up most of today, went from having some substance to just bile. (sorry for the mental picture) she is very lethargic, she keeps going to a secluded part of the house and just laying there by herself, (very out of the ordinary for her, she usually has to be in the middle of everything) it's been about 2 hours since her last episode. she won't eat or drink obviously, we don't think she has eaten anything out of the ordinary besides a flip flop about a week ago but we thought most of that passed. how worried should i be? right now i am about a 9! any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think she needs to be seen by your vet

It could be anything from pancreatitis to an obstructed bowel. Only your vet can determine what the problem is and what, if any, treatment she needs.

Definitely take her to a vet. That sort of behaviour is indicative of an animal that is quite distressed. She can't tell you what the problem is, so the best thing is to get her to a vet who should be able to figure whether or not it is an emergency.

yes if she ate a flip flop I'd take her in. It can sometimes take that long to finally get lodged somewhere. Better be safe than sorry.

Yeah I agree with the others and her symptoms are 100% identical to what my boy had when he had an obstruction last November. He went from puking up food and such to then just nasty bile and it smelled HORRIBLE, if there's a very foul odor I was told it's almost always an obstruction, was also told it can take 2-3 weeks for it to become known so you'd be within that time frame, my boy stopped eating and drinking, just wanted to be in his crate, barfed a ton (as in multiple times) and mostly bile after awhile, turned out he had a piece of his bedding stuck in his stomach and intestines. Go to the vet and get an x-ray or 2 and you should have an answer.

Megan, how did they treat it? how long did this go on before you took him to the vet?

I definately agree, off to the vet. Especially since she won't drink anything, you don't want her to get dehydrated.

How is your girl doing? I see you are on line right now. Did you take your girl in? If you haven't you are really playing a dangerous game.

When the moderator(gmacleod) of this site replies about the need to take your dog into the vet, I hope you heed that advice.

Many times those objects, such as flip flops, will not completely pass.

At minimum she is going to feel worse due to weakness from lack of nutrients and more than likely dehydrated to the point that IV fluids will need to be offered.
I hope it is nothing serious but it seems as if she does need to be seen by a vet to get a definitive diagnosis and support.

hi everyone - thanks for your concern. she drank some last night and are a little this morning. she is moving around just fine, just a little sad, but very interested in dogs and people when we went out this mroning. trying to get into the vet today. no more vomiting. more later...
