Thanks for the replies. I edited the first posting in which I said people had adviced to get a lawyer. And people were just asuming I was wanting money. I was not charged for the surgery because it was covered on her insurances The vet said for me to decide on what I want to make it right. I was kind of leaning toward the advice of one of the members about having her medical stuff covered by them in the future. Once again thank you all for all your advice.

i don't know what was originally posted, but i would say the OP is lucky to get a free spay. :D Especially if she had no intentions of breeding her pets. (which im hoping that she did not.. we don't need more BYBs) Spays can be semi-costly procedures.. and its better for the overall health of the bitch in question. Im not sure what "her medical stuff covered for the future" means, but i don't think the vet should have to be forever indebted to the client. If you are not comfortable w/ that vet now, get a new one. JMHO

Although I did not see your original post before it was modified, I for one believe that any type of surgery without consent should constitute a serious breach of ethics. However, in Texas, vets are not required to provide any proof of consent at all - they are allowed to state that they or a staff member got oral consent without providing a shred of evidence.
To prevent this type of thing from happening to you again, I suggest that you find a reputable vet that uses written consent forms for surgery, anesthesia, and other tests and procedures. The consent form should state exactly what is to be done and the risks and benefits should also be fully discussed so that you can make an 'informed decision".
On a brighter note...spaying/neutering does eliminate a lot of health risks, and your furbaby has pulled through her surgery without incident. ~ Cathy

Did you not stay with your dog & talk to the Dr., did you leave her & pick her up later. If this is the case, its your fault not his & think about it, he did you a favor & saved you money in the long run. Put the blame where it belongs & I don't think its the Vet. Hanley

^^I don't think it is her fault, really? How can it be though? If the vet was told to do one thing and DID another, then it is fair and square his fault.
I had a friend who left her girl at the vets to have her CCL replaced. Guess what? The vet did the WRONG surgery, although on the correct knee, the wrong surgery. Is that her fault? NOOO, clearly it is the vets fault and not hers, even if she did have to leave her at the vets all day.

I'm sorry you disagree, but do you take your children to the hospital tell the nurse what you want done & leave. No, I don't think so, thats child abuse. You should never leave a dog either, my dogs are like my children & their Vets know that & they are never too busy that they can't talk to me.You can not take dropping them off, telling them what you want done & come back & the wrong procdure was done & get upset. They do get busy & make mistakes, as we all do. just make sure you are there & most of the time things like this won't happen, & if it does then it is the Vets fault. Hanley
