Boxer Buddy
Ok, so I am at home yesterday (sick) with the flu. Not this nice flu, but this Industrial sized flu that dosen't care if you had the shot or not. And this lady from down the stree (never met her, but had seen her) come knocking on my door. Now of course I am the kind BOXER LOVING person I am so I answer very polite. She says "Hey, I have this boxer and dont want him anymore. Would you like to have him?". Now at this point I am curious, but know I cant have another one (up to 3 now). I open my door and there stands a 6 month old male brindle. Skin and bones and thats it. Totally malnurished and left outside since he was a pup. I saw him and my heart broke.....and I am a guy that is 6'2" and I go about 300lbs.....not easy for my heart to break.
So I tell her that I have to talk to my wife, but that I will call her at 3:30 and tell her what we decide (already knowing that I am taking this dog no matter what because of his condition). All I could do is think about this poor baby sitting out in the cold with no food and no water.
So my wife agrees to look at him and I make the call. She comes back and my wife turns to me with tears in her eyes and I told the lady YES, we will take him.
I bring the poor guy over to the feeding area (my othere babies were outside using the bathroom and playing) and he went nuts. He drank 2 full bowls of water and still wanted more, so I knew he hadn't drank anything in a few days atleast. After closer inspection, I notice an ear infection, a few bald spots on the ears and what looked like to me somone was burning the ends of his ears......
So now I am getting pissed and she is standing there saying how much she will miss him but that they just cant afford to feed him.......(ok, here is where I lost my cool)....I told her, you can have a cell phone, but cant feed you dog? I asked her if she had running water because the poor dog hasn't had any in atleast a few days and that she was very lucky she was a woman and not a man. At this point she looked very scared so I backed off a little. Didn't want her to leave without hearing the rest of what I had to say.
So needless to say, she left, I grabbed our new friend and we went off to the Vet. Lucky for me our Vet and I are pretty good friends and he said he wouldn't charge me anything to look at him......
So we get there and of course, ear mites, malnurished, possible urinary infect......oh, and did I mention heart worms? Yeah, this poor animal has never had any shots, or even been to the vet before.
So to make the rest of my story short as possible, "Redmen" is going to be fine. He was actually playing with my daugher and I that eveing (after another bowl of food and 2 more bowls of water). Unfortunatly we can not keep Redmen so we put out all the messages to our other boxerfriends and we have 3 people comming tonight to look at him.
Sorry to let this all out, but had to tell some people just to get it off my chest.......thanks for listening.......
Regards,
Paul
