Well, my neighbor had an especially good hunting season this year, and as a life-long venison lover, when he offered me a few pounds of tenderloin, he could tell I wanted it by the huge amounts of drool flowing out of my mouth.

Now I have a bit of a problem-I've never actually had to cook vension and have no idea what to do with the meat.

Any suggestions?

Tenderloin is about the best part of the deer. When I cook it I cut it into strips and grill...but that is when I feed it to my family, we thrive on deer meat:) My dogs get it raw after it freezes for a safe amount of time. But if you want to cook it for your dog/dogs I would just bake it in cut up 1 or 2 pound portions in the oven for 45 minutes @ 375. Hope this helps:)

I now realize this is for humans DUH!!! To make tenderloin real good pound with a mallet or a soup as I do then cut into strips and season with pepper or seasoning salt and grill or griddle. You could even fry it in a little olive oil or butter if grilling is not an option. One thing I would advise is to rinse the thawed out me in cold water for a good 3-5 minutes then wrap in paper towel to get rid of excess water. This process really helps with the really wild taste some people do not like. Nobody know they are eating deer meat at my house because of the way I prepare it, but it still so much better then beef:) The blood is what gives it the wild taste so if you like that do not rinse it. Hope it comes out well. It is good with A 1 sauce.

I like to cut into cubes and make a stew, or if it's ground up I'll make a chili. Most of the time my buddy has it made into either Sweet or Hot Sausage or some thing like Pork Roll.

Thanks! All the suggestions sound so good. I hope my neighbor gives me more so I can try both frying it and the stew (I hadn't thought of a stew). ;)

When we were younger my mom always cut into into bite size chucks, dipped in egg and then rolled in flour and deep fried it....OMG. It was yummy! I haven't had venison in years!

My favorite way to have venison (I'm SO jealous!) is to simply fry it up in some butter with onions. Don't overdo, the meat is delicate and can dry out quickly. Enjoy!
