Spoke with the Oncologist tonight for the biopsy results. She said it's a Grade 2 Soft Tissue sarcoma. They still don't have a definitive answer as far as what type of sarcoma but she said they reported seeing some ugly cells that made them diagnose it as Stage 2. She is going to have Pathology go back over all of his tests on Monday and see if they can come up with, at least, a likely type diagnosis.
She gave us the treatment options, and based on what I've read about sarcomas, radiation seems the best way to go. She mentioned a new treatment called 'metronome chemotherapy' but I vetoed that one because Hugo would have to be on oral chemo for 6 mths! He's 8, I don't want him to spend that much of his golden years on chemo. My husband was happy to hear me say that because it's wicked expensive. We have the option to do nothing but sarcomas often come back, and my Dad's cancer was in a spot where they could remove very little and after seeing the way it took over, doing nothing is not an option.
Here's the radiation dilemma. The choices are high dose radiation, few days/2 wks; or low dose radiation, 5 days week/1 mth. I don't really want Hugo on the high dose but I don't like the idea of him being under anesthesia 20 days a month either. Meeting with Oncologist and Radiation Clinician Tuesday to get their recommendations...will let you know!
BTW, Dr Uhri remembers Cami!
