Evie&Adam
Boxer Insane
You guys have been SO HELPFUL with ideas for straightening out the problems we had in the past with Adam. Adam has become such a good pup, I often forget that we even had those problems!!! Adam is now 19 months old. He will be 2 this June. Some of the problems we had and have solved:
1. Leash walking - - after trying many types of leashes, collars, harnesses... Adam will now tolerate the Gentle Leader and does not pull!
On the GL, he now heels, albeit a little bit in front of me - which I am okay with. When we put the leash on before our walks, Adam will sit (without being told) and patiently wait for me to put on the GL and leash.
2. Over Protectiveness - - This is gotten so much better! When we are on a walk (or in public in general) Adam will still bark if a stranger is near me, but he no longer lunges at them or tries to eat them. He watches the person, but he will continue walking with me in a heel (most of the time!) If DH is with me, Adam could care less! :D
3. Leash Aggression - Before, Adam would become VERY aggressive when on the GL, not a problem now! :D
4. Interaction with loose dogs - - Adam is still learning to say "hello" to new dogs. We still have to take it in stages (25 feet away in a sit then moving closer, again sit, etc., but this only takes 1-2 minutes now). Now, Adam can actually sniff another dog so long as the other dog is leashed!! Yeah! The rule is "no saying hello 'til Adam settles down." (this works for people coming to visit the house too
) If a loose dog approaches, Adam will no longer "attack" to protect me. He just stands their watching and waiting for me to tell him what to do.
5. Basic commands - - he is nearly a pro! his recall is getting better all the time. He is awsome at sit, stay, wait, leave it, down, up (from a down), shake hands, and watch me.
6. Potty training - - he rings the bell!
We are still working on all of this on a daily basis. Lots and Lots and Lots of patience is the key! Adam is growing up to be such a wonderful "little boy" (LOL he's 90 lbs now!!! WOW)
Again, thank you so much for all that BW help!!
