That's what seems to have happened with Hayden.... He's fine with #2 but he seems to think that he can go #1 whereever. He used to be really consistent with hitting the bells on the door when he had to go out too. But now, he doesn't seem to give any indication that he has to go. Or at least any that I can pick up on.... And more often than not, I'll find a little zig-zagging trail of pee on the carpet because he's going as he's walking. I make him hit the bells EVERY time that I take him out and praise him like crazy after that and then after he goes potty. I just don't know what else to do!!!

Maggie is about the same age as your Hayden and seemed to do the same thing! I wonder if it's their age?? It seemed that I had to start all over again with her. Blocking off the hallway with a baby gate and watching her EVERY move and taking her out every 15 minutes. She caught back on after a couple days, and I definitely had to catch her in the act. But it sure was frustrating because she was doing so good and then all of a sudden seemed to "forget" that she was supposed to potty outside. Good Luck with Hayden! :)

they are still pretty little, just babies. I noticed that Hayden is only 4 mos old, too young to be reliable. Keep working on it (even though it is very frustrating). One day it is like they "get it" Good Luck!! :)

Oh the puppy relapses!

Just go back to basics. Take him out more often (don't rely on him to tell you anything for a few days) and praise/treat like crazy when he does it right. He just needs a refresher. I think a ton of puppies go through this- mine sure did! In fact, mine did the exact same "pee n' walk" trick! I remember muttering angrily to myself, down on my hands an knees, cleaning up what seemed like a mile long trail of pee on the carpet!

The good thing is that once you go back to basics, they learn the rules again very quickly.

Try not to get too frustrated with him. He has a lot of rules to remember!

Yep

My boy did the same thing~and then he would scurry underneath the bed because he knew he did something bad! He hasn't done it in awhile but I can relate. Do you think the "trail" is from him running from you as you tell him NO? LOL
