So I signed up a couple of weeks ago for an Olan Mills pet event. There was a $10 sitting fee and a free 8X10 if you made an appointment that day. Well today was our day...

Imagine, 3 boxers in a Kmart store surrounded with other dogs waiting to get their picture taken. There was another boxer there and Dozer wanted nothing more than to play with her. It was stuffy in the store and the dogs were excited so they were slobbery. The store itself wasn't set up very well for having dogs in it, we were sitting among clothes that were set out on sale. A rack of black Halloween sweatshirts to be exact, slobbery Dozer and clothes don't mix...he walked passed the rack and slobbered the shirts.

Finally it was our turn to go back. We got a picture of the three dogs and us two humans which was fine because we were able to hold on to them. They did a few other poses with us in the picture then did one with all three dogs alone. The photographer "barked" at the dogs to get them to look at her. Much to her surprise, the not only looked at her but they barked back. She got scared and jumped back, making them more excitable. First of all, who would bark at strange dogs to get their attention? And if she is working with dogs, why would she jump like there were attacking her, they didn't even move, just barked at her.

Anyhow, got everyone calmed down and she started using a squeaker toy to get their attention. Dozer thought that was great and started to bark his goofy play bark. The assistant started to tense up and warn everyone that Dozer's bark was mean and he was getting ready to attack. I assured them that wasn't his mean bark and that every thing is a game to him. They continued and we weren't doing that great. I decided to tell them what to say to the dogs and when to say it to get the response they wanted instead of squeaking balls, tossing toys, and jumping around to catch their attention. I stood to the side and told them when to say the word I spelled. After me taking control, we got some good shots. The dogs calmed down and were playing with each other on the canvas. Brady wouldn't lay down right, he kept rolling over to his back and just being goofy but finally we got what we were trying to get.

The way they were doing things was just exciting the dogs and I couldn't get them to stay or even listen to me. When we were all done, Dozer ran over to the bench that the photographer was sitting on. She kind of froze...all the dog wanted was to get a ball that was underneath her bench, lol. By the time I got to him, he had grabbed the ball and was happily playing with it which made everyone laugh.

The dogs did well, I was proud of them. I feel the "professionals" could have been a bit more relaxed and attentive. We got good shots and after buying a 16x20 framed canvas and multiple shots of each dog, we spent wayyyy too much money but I think it was worth it. We will get them back in 4-6 weeks but there should be some pictures I can access on their website within the next week or two. When I get them, I will post them for you all to see.

the thought of my three sitting still for pictures gives me a headache..can't wait to see how yours turn out!!!

That is exactly what I thought and was even assured that their behavior didn't matter because the photographers had at least 15 years of experience.
After we got everything under control, things went pretty smoothly and weren't near as bad as I thought they were going to be.

One of my biggest issues is I wanted a similar pose out of each dog for their individual pictures. I couldn't get Abbie to sit up, she just wanted to lay down. So we went with that and then I couldn't get Brady to lay without rolling onto his back. Dozer would do whatever I told him for about 2 seconds, then he would change position to get a better look at something. Dozer's tongue was an issue too. He had it hanging out and I swear it is a mile long. It took quite a few tries to snap one with it in.

I can't wait to see your pictures!!

We had Bayleigh's picture taken at Petsmart a couple of years ago. I had a hard time deciding which ones to buy. Of course, my family made fun of me for spending money on my dog's pictures! I need to check around because I would love to have an updated photo!

I can just imagine what a hand full Joey alone would be, let alone three. Hands up to you for braving this. I hope all was worth it once you get the finished photos. Cant wait to see the pictures.

There used to be a professional pet photographer in the town where I live. For my 16th birthday, my folks had a portrait taken of my first boxer. According to my dad, she had to sit on an ironing board type platform which she kept slipping off and the photographer would meow to get a reaction. Much to our surprise her photo was used by the photographer in her ad. The portrait is my most prized possession and hangs above that fireplace 20+ years later.

I had my senior pcitures taken with my Tossie in them. Now that she is gone, I am so glad that I was able to have her in my pictures. Everyone thought I was crazy but I thought it was normal.
Now everyone thinks I am crazy because of how much I spent on these professional pictures.

I will try to scan my senior picture and post it. As soon as I get these new pictures, I will definately post them. I bought multiple prints and also the CD package that include the copyright rights.
