Hi everyone,
This is kind of hard for me to talk about...but I need to hear from some people who can understand how hard this has been, seeing as how some people dont understand how a pet can mean so much. I am a college student and this is my first year being able to live out of the dorms. I have waited my whole life to be able to get a boxer and so I was super excited when my fiance bought a house, so I would finally have an appropriate place for my dog. I immediately began searching for the perfect puppy. After about a month or two of looking I found him. I named him Tyson and waited impatiently until I could bring him home. I was SO excited. I bought him every toy a dog could have and told anyone who would listen to me about my new puppy. Things were great, Tyson potty trained almost immediately, and loved to cuddle more than any dog I have ever met in my life! I had him for about a month when I brought him in to get his ears cropped. (I know some people dont agree with this but please dont get on my back about it now). I felt I was taking the extra percations to make it painless for him, and it honestly didnt dawn on me anything terrible could happen from it. When I brought him in for his appointment I started crying and I couldnt figure out why. I was picking him up tomorrow morning and I knew it shouldnt have been that big of a deal. Its almost like I knew sometime bad was going to happen. That afternoon I got a call from the doctor. The first thing he said was "Has Tyson been sick, or could he have gotten into any rat poison?" I was really thrown off guard by the question because of course he wasnt sick or gotten into poison...obviously I would have told the vet if he had! The vet then told me that Tyson had a seizure and his heart had stopped. They couldnt revive him. It was like somebody stabbed me in the heart. I did not understand how could this possible happen? Just to clarify I had called that vet while doing research on the procedure and they told me the worst thing that could happen is his ears could not stand up right if they are not taped well. I know it is stupid now, but at the time it never even crossed my mind my puppy could DIE from this stupid procedure. I have never been more devestated in my entire life. I have now found out that there have been other dogs that have died from ear cropping at that same clinic, so essentially they lied to me the entire time. THis is the kicker though, about a month after this whole ordeal I suspected they were still lying about it, so I had my boyfriend call and pretend to be inquiring about getting ears cropped. He asked if dogs can die from it and the lady told him "I have been here a long time and we have never had one." Can you believe they didnt even acknowledge the death of my baby???? It has just been a terrible ordeal and I wanted to come on here to share it in the hopes that maybe it can be prevented for someone else. Please take the time to do more research if you are gonna get this or any procedure done. Get a reputable vet. I wish I could go back and change my mistake but I cant. I just needed to get that off my chest. I feel terribly guilty and I just need some support I guess.
Although I will always love Tyson, I did choose to get a new puppy about three months after he died. My new puppy is named Brinks and he is a big bundle of energy. He is a fancy fawn and is about four month old now. I dont know what I would do without him. Anyways, I am new to this board and I just wanted to say hello and give everyone a little background (and warning) of my experience. SOrry this is so long.....
