Just enrolled
I just enrolled right now for Veterinary Pet Insurance. It did seem to have pretty good coverage. I've been researching insurance companies for a couple months now. The only bad thing about VPI is that they don't cover hereditary disorders. Alas, I have found that most pet insurance companies put a little "fine print" in there that says they won't cover hereditary disorders. And of course, heart disease, hip dysplasia, hypothyroidism, etc. can be pretty expensive. So, I went with the slightly cheaper plan because I figured that if I have to pay out of pocket for the chronic disorders, I might as well not pay an arm and leg for a monthly premium. Incidentally, the standard plan has a little less coverage, but still quite respectable, especially for such things like car accidents and odd-ball illnesses. Also, another nice thing is the vaccination/routine care package. You could probably save money by doing the vaccinations yourself at home if you're comfortable with that type of thing, but the plan also includes your choice of comprehensive health exam, spay/neuter, and (my personal fave) dental cleaning. No deductible for the vacc/routine care package either.
LOL, I sound like an infomercial!
Anyways, seems like a good deal. . . I'd rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.
