What a brave boy Tobi was and what a great mommy he still has loving him every minute. Wherever Tobi has gone, I'm sure he's missing and loving you too. My thoughts are with you.

Tazi-

I am so sorry to hear about Tobie. Remember the good times and take it easy.

After my Lightning, it took me 6 years to get another dog. I didn't think anything or any dog could come close. Boy was I wrong-Caesar is the exact opposite of Lightning but he is my heart and soul-I don't know how I did 6 years without a pet! I guess I just had to wait for my time to be right.

Please accept our deepest condolences.

Dearest Tazi:

This is my first message on this board. I have been following your posts for the last few days or so and praying for your baby, I guess it wasn't meant to be. My heart goes out to you.

My precious baby boy Kongo, 8 years old is going through the same thing.

He was "fixed" a few months ago & seemd to be OK. Then 3 weeks ago I saw some blood on his bed, checked his ears & found blood. I cleaned his ears good & 2 days later he began acting weird. Sitting in the corner just staring at the wall, blinking his eyes, wetting the bed & floor, falling down the stairs, acting like TV images of mad cow disease. I PANICKED. I took him to the vet. Who took blood & said something is going on in his central nervous system. He gave him a shot of "steroids" & some Prednisone (2x day for a week, 1x day for the next week and 1 every other day thereafter.) It helped a little.

He referred me to a neurologist who examined him & said he either had an infectuion or a tumer in his head, he leaned towards the tumer because it's common in Boxers. I have already spent over $300 (I'm on unemployment). The MRI cost $1800 & if the condition is operable the treatment would be chemo therapy & radiation ($$$???). I asked if the treatment would cure him. He said brain cancer in humans or animals is rarely curable. The object would be to extend his life some and improve the quality of his life.

If it doesn't cure him what's the since in prolonging his suffering? I can't deal with this, it's horrible! What if I let him go not knowing if it is brain cancer or not, I would be wondering if I could have saved my baby from a treatable disease if only I had given him the MRI ?

I have to stop now!

Sandi, I am so very very sorry

This is going to be hard to say and just as hard for you to read, but if he truly has a tumor, the MRI will only tell you that, and most likely there won't be anything they can do. I think its true if my vet had immediately put Tobie on steroids that he would've lasted longer, but not much I'm sure. The whole problem is that they suffer and we suffer, and our hearts break to see them this way when they are so active normally.
I am so sorry, and I'm hugging you in my thoughts and crying for you because I know its more then you can bear. This board, and everyone on it that has responded and prayed for me and Tobie has gotten me through his sickness and death, and they will help you too.
Please just take one day at a time, and remind him you love him, and know he loves you.
Big hugs ((((((()))))))

Feeling Your Pain

Dear Tazi,
I had to put my girl Socks down a few months ago. She had intestinal cancer, and by the time she began showing the major symptoms, it was too late to do much. My family and I decided to let her go as long as she could as long as she was feeling OK. In the end she let us know that she was ready. I was with her when the vet gave her the injection.

It is so hard to lose a beloved friend such as Socks was to us and I'm sure Tobi was to you. You will feel better after a while - I promise - without giving up the special place in your heart that will always be there for Tobi.

We are planning on getting a boxer puppy in January. I wish the same for you.

Best regards,
Martha

I am so sorry for you, we lost our Duke to a possible brain tumor a 3 years ago this month. We too had not been able to get him in for an MRI to confirm it. He would have been 12 in a few months so at his age the vet was pretty sure it was that or a stroke, either way it is so hard to watch your best buddy go down hill so fast.
Tobie is free of pain now and whole again, I am sure he knows you did your best and left with love in his heart. I know it is is painful now, and I had 2 other boxers at the time to help me though it. I recommend when you can bring yourself through this to think about getting another boxer either rescue or pup. I am sure it will help you to remember the good times with Tobie.

With love and sympathylovicon

I've had a rough last week, working out the feelings about losing Tobie, but I have been to see at least one breeder about puppies, and I go to see another today. I understand now what you guys meant about feeling bad replacing the boxer you lost, I feel that. I also see him in the puppies faces. The ones I saw last night are of the short german variety, and although very sweet boxers-Rusty is one-I want a tall lean boy like my Tobie. They only had a girl left and she really liked me, but there was a boy who was leaping on and over all the other puppies and he just had Tobie written all over him, making me feel that I'm going to find the right puppy if I keep looking. I'm in Chesterfield, Virginia, and I will travel to get a puppy if anyone knows of reputable breeders around the area. I have a number of a breeder in Lake Gaston that I will be calling today also. Anyway, the main reason for this post was to close out Tobie's ruptured ear post, and thank everyone for their prayers and support, you helped me through a truly horrible time in my life. Thank you. I'll post the new puppy info in the correct forum when I pick him out.

Tazi, I sent you a private message with the name of a breeder in
Virginia. More important than seeing Tobie in other Boxers, is that you will find him in their personalities and actions.

Rocky was a reverse brindle, somewhat chunky. Indy is more like what I imagine Tobie to be from your definition. But apart from the obvious physical differences, Indy is so much like Rocky, it is as though Rocky's spirit now lives in Indy.

He likes the same places in the house. He acts and responds to things in the same way. And most importantly, he is every bit as affectionate and expressive as Rocky.

The major difference between them is of our doing. We have never fed Indy at the table. Rocky would sit at the table, making pathetic half whines begging for food. Indy may come to the table when we sit, but he will grab a toy and wander off to play while we eat.

Be sure to check your private message in your user cp. Feel free to click on the e-mail below this post if you need more info.

Regards, Tom
