thank you

for you thoughts and for caring. It does really really hurt to not have him here. Everytime I come home, everytime I wakeup I have to remember all over again that he is an hour away. They are taking good care of him, and today he did seem better. He was a little better then Saturday, and much better then yesterday. He wagged his nub when he saw me and i laid down on his blanket with him in his enclosure again, like yesterday. There are no results from the bloodwork yet, and they still think this is brain related. They will do a MRI on Wednesday, as that is the day that U of R lets them use the special animal mri unit. I will know something by late that evening. They could do skull xrays but they would have to give him anesthesia and they don't want to do xrays and an mri and have to give him antsthesia twice. When an animal has neurological issues, it is very difficult to wake them up afterwards, and it is a risk. The mri will tell them more than the xrays would, according to the vet.
This is very good advice:
"expect the worst, hope for the best, an be thankfull for the outcome!! what ever it means. I will hope for the best. an expect the best an not be happy till the outcome is the best!!!"
and it sums up how I am feeling right now. Sunday, I actually thought he looked so bad, I said goodbye in my heart, and I told him not to suffer, to get well if he could, but not to suffer.
I do need to ask them if they can give him something for the dizziness, that is a very good idea! When I called later today, they said after I left this morning he stood up and immediately flopped over but he hasn't tried to stand up in days so unless this is caused by the steroids it is a good sign. All those thoughts and prayers coming his way are probably helping him. Thank you so much!

Still here thinking about you and Tobie. Let's hope the improvements are positive signs of better things to come.

Your ordeal is haunting me and the two of you are in my thoughts throughout the day. Indy and I join all the others sending positive thoughts your way.

Your updates are greatly appreciated.

Regards, Tom

Tobie is a tiny bit better today

He is trying to stand up more, and he stood once with assistance and "planted" his feet which they tell me is a good sign with a dog who is neuro. Neuro dogs curl there toes under and he has been doing that most of this week, making it impossible for him to stand. When I visited tonight he was well enough for them to bring him on a gurney to a visitation room. I got him to eat a can of dog food, it took him a while and he tired easily but he ate in all. Tobie loves to eat so this is a good sign. He still won't drink water and they give it to him with a syringe without the needle. He is also getting iv fluids. Tomorrow is the mri, and I will hear something tomorrow night. I probably won't be able to visit him because we are expecting a major winter snow and ice storm tomorrow and he is just too far away. But they will call me after the mri. I will update this late tomorrow.

No good news

The MRI was cancelled because of the weather here. The bloodwork came back normal.
The vet called last night and said Tobie is doing much worse. He is starting to experience paralysis of his face and tongue and he would not eat yesterday.
The vet is 100% sure now that Tobie has a tumor on his brain stem. He started Tobie on prednizone yesterday and he said if Tobie is not better in 48 hours it will be time to make a decision. He asked if I wanted them to try to resucitate (sic) him if his heart stops and I said no. They will call me immediately if he gets worse.
I'm sorry that I did not update last night, it took me over an hour to get home as it was snowing and sleeting really badly. I was just too tired and sad to turn my computer on.
Please pray now that the best end result will happen for Tobie, that if he can get well and it is not a tumor that would be wonderful, but if it is a tumor, that he not suffer. Thank you for your support; I am trying to be strong.

I'm so sorry to hear that about Tobie. I have tears in my eyes for you and your beloved pet. It is about the worst roller coaster ride we can experience.

We went through something similar with Rocky over a year ago, and we had to bid our friend farewell. I have yet to "get over" it. I cannot imagine what it must be like to lose a child. It was the most difficult thing I have dealt with in my 61 years.

I won't take the time to go into it, but if you go to the rainbow bridge forum and scroll down to Remembering Rocky, you can read about it.

I know that words cannot do much to ease your pain. There is nothing more difficult than facing the prospect of letting go of someone who has meant so much. But this one thought I leave with you.

About three months after Rocky's passing, we got another Boxer pup. We initially thought there could never be another dog like Rocky. We were wrong. It is as though Rocky's spirit now lives in Indy. He brings the same blend of goofiness and joy into our home.

Yes it grieves us to lose our friends. But that is preferable to never having known them. We only grieve over those we value. It is a blessing to have had them. Be strong, and be hopeful. But either way, be thankful. You've been richly blessed by having Tobie.

Again, so sorry for what you're having to endure.

Thinking of you and Tobie, Tom
