TWO ruptured eardrums, please read

Update, NO ruptured eardrums after all
The specialist called, he doesn't think Tobie has any ruptured eardrums. He says Tobie's ear canals are extremely long, longer then normal, and there is debris in front of the ear drums on both ears. He said the problem is that Tobie has Canine Vestibular disease, (not sure if I am spelling that right), and this is causing extreme vertigo. They did bloodwork today but won't know the results until the first part of next week. They will keep him until at least Monday. (I miss him so much!!) The disease can be caused by a bacterial infection of the middle ear, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme Disease or a brain tumor. If all the blood work is normal they will have to do an MRI next week to look for tumors or lesions of the brain or brain stem. This is going to cost a fortune that I don't have but I love Tobie and hope that he will get well. Everyone please pray that this is Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever as it is the easiest of the causes to treat. I haven't seen any tics on him. He will be fully back to normal after major intreveineous (sic) antibiotics if that is the case. A bacterial infection will need surgery, and their is nothing they can do for a brain tumor. We're all still here with you and Tobie. Most if not all of us have been through times like this and know how you feel and what you are going through, so you are not alone.

I am so sorry that you and Tobie have to go through this :( It is extremly difficult when our baby's are so sick. I will keep Tobie in my thoughts and prayers. I hope they can figure out and fix what is wrong with him. GET BETTER SOON TOBIE!!!!!!!!!!!! We are all praying for ya!!

Thanks so much
for the thoughts and prayers. I know its been several days since I updated this, and I've just been too busy to go near my computer. (I had a plumbing problem that began Friday and wasn't fixed until Saturday evening) Saturday, my son and I went to see Tobie, and he was the same, very alert but very dizzy and unable to control his balance. I took a sandwich baggie full of nutro max treats and he scarfed them. They put us in a "visitation" room and we sat on the floor with him laying on a towel with his head on a pillow. I left feeling like he was being well taken care of. Then yesterday while I was at church the on duty vet called and left a message that he was doing worse, and she felt she should give him a steroid shot. That was at 11:30 and I got home at 1:30. By then the vet had left, and at noon she had given him the shot. I went to see him, and he was moving around some but nowhere near as much as the day before, and both his eyes are cloudy and draining. He knew I was there, and this time I went into his holding area, so they would not have to move him, and laid on the floor on a blanket with him and held him and cried. When I left he kept trying to turn his head around to look at me but didn't have the strength to hold it up. I know I am going to spell this wrong, but they now think he has encephalitis, or an inflammation of the brain. They will give him regular Dex shots, (the steroid), and continue the antibiotics. I had taken a half day of vacation today to take him to his appointment, so I am going to leave here in about a half hour and go see him again before going to work. That way I can talk to the vet that I spoke to on Friday, and hopefully the bloodwork results will also be back. I should have another update late this evening.

Poor Tobie and poor you!
I hope Tobie comes out of this ok, it's very distressing when your baby is sick, I know. He is in good hands at the vets, I am sure they will be able to help Tobie to get well again. My thoughts are with you both.

I was wondering, I know they are giving him steroids and antibiotics but are they giving him anything to help with the dizziness? Dramamine (sp) which is what they use in people who get motion sickness can somtimes help animals who are vestibular. It is encouraging that he is still eating, when they are that dizzy, normally they have no intrest in food so at least that's a good sign that he still wants to eat. It brings tears to my eyes just picturing your poor baby going through all this. He will continue to be in my prayers.

I'm so sorry to hear that Tobie is ill. :( Poor boy. We send you healing thoughts and prayers for his recovery. I know your visits are one of the most potent healing forces for him. Do they have any idea how he got this?! All our best to you, it must be incredibly difficult for you to see him this way.
