We have a white boxer and went to my husbands neices' soccer game late last summer. Our boy had been in the middle of a growth spurt so he looked all awkward and legthy (love that phase!!)anyways... A lady, who is friends with my in-laws; and is a VERY uppity boxer "show-er?" (a.k.a. competes in the ring) Came up to me and with the most rude, disrepectful tone asked "if we rescued our boy because he obviously looked like he had many errors?" I was SOOO mad. So I simply replied, "No, but are you planning on getting a nose job because your nose has obvious errors" and just walked away!!!! I have yet to talk to her again. : ) Sometimes I get a little big for my britches..Oh well, she asked for it!

I live in Ontario, Canada and we unfortunately have a by-law that bans pit bulls from being owned, bred or imported in Ontario. This law was "passed" almost 5 years ago and requires that all pit bulls, or any dog that look like a pit bull be muzzled at all times when outside and remain on leash. Owners in violation of this protocol are given fines and in very extreme cases their dogs could be taken away and euthanized. Luckily, this law has been loosely enforced due to the fact that many of the enforcers (by-law Officers) own pit bulls themselves. All this to say, one day my husband and I were at the dog park with our pure-bred (or at least mostly pure-bred) boxer who we rescued from the local Humane Society early last year. My husand, my dog and I were minding our business when this lady approaches us and tells us that we need to muzzle our dog. Both of us look at her like she's mistaken and must be talking about another dog, but she continues to say that since our dog "looks" like a pit bull (according to her) under the Ontario law she has to be muzzled and kept on leash. My husband and I were so dumbfounded and frankly offended that all we could muster up to say without being extremely rude (athough she likely deserved it) was "she's pure bred boxer, but thanks for your concern" and we walked away. I mean my dog LOOKS like a boxer and the kicker is that she wasn't anywhere near this lady, she was playing with another dog and having a great time.

Sadly, it's not the first time we've seen people mistake boxers for pit bulls and in Ontario, that can be a scary thing. What I've come to realize is that there are many ignorant and tactless people out there who feel like sharing their opinion is more imporant then respecting people's privacy and boundaries. All we can do is shake it off and not let it ruin our experience with our dogs!

I have had similair problems with Molly when I tell them that I got her from a rescue centre they seem to say "never thought you would get a pure bred boxer from there" as it is rare especially where I live, and I also get this question because people are not used to seeing a boxer with a tail, my way of handling this was to post pictures of Molly on this forum and ask people who knew their stuff about boxers, but I understand you feeling annoyed as Ive had this from when I got Molly, Patty
