I saw a notice on the Florida Boxer Rescue site about a boxer bash hosted by Tampa Bay Boxer Club scheduled for June 1st, weather permitting. If you are interested, check out their site and click on the calendar link.

I have two - 8 & 3 1/2 - both spayed females - They get along wonderfully - just don't leave them with bones for more than about 15 minutes or all hell breaks loose! It's only happened 4 or 5 times over the years, but as Tulsa-Dan said, it is not a pretty sight but the broom is always handy just in case, cuz I found that neither one of them likes the way the bristles feel when they are brushed against the grain of the hair on their backs - instant cure in my house (at least long enough to diffuse the situation.

I always had 2 or more female dogs in the house ever since I was little, and I can honestly say that we never had any major problems. I can say, however, that Tess (my 8 yr old boxer) did not take too well to ANY older dog, male or female, when we tried to rescue - talk about a massive viscious bitch fight - she was the Queen! We ended up getting Tenaia at 8 weeks old, and Tess sort of took over the motherly role and things have been great.

Frankly, I'm surprised by all the trouble people have had with more than one bitch. I have had two spayed females who were not litter mates but were brought into the house at the same time as pups. They are quite literally sisters who have their squabbles and fights. It is more entertaining than anything. I've even seen them mount each other the odd time. I guess they really are trying to decidewho the dominant one is. Perhaps though I am lucky because they were brought in together and I worked hard initially to show that under absolutely every situation I am the boss and would never allow them to dominate me.

The only problems I can maybe say is going on is when I walk them. If other dogs walk by one of mine will snap at the other. She never snaps at the other dogs only her own sister

You must be very lucky. There is nothing entertaining about the squabbles and fight my two girls have had.

Well im not!
I have seen bitches who have lived the greater part of their lives as best mates suddenly turn on each other and I have seen bitches grow old together with minimal fuss.
But if you knew how the dog brain works you would understand that there can only be one head bitch.
Here I do NOT refer to the humans in control.
Unless you have your dogs roped to your side , they do have some control over their doggy lives regardless.
Normally bitches are quite alpha by nature.
Even when spayed a lot of the following will still happen because it is imprinted in the dog from creation.
Bitches are the producers so they need a do or die attitude for survival.
They also have rules that go with being alpha bitch.
Alpha bitch has the seasons, the matings and the best food.
Some Alpha bitch can control her bitches to the point of bringing them into season or actually supressing them.
When it comes to matings though it is alpha dog who has the final say in that matter.
The aplha bitch is quite happy if the other bitch is totally disinterested in usurping any top role.
Any alpha bitch that even percieves a challenge will become a ferocious defender.
The most little understood aspect of bitch/bitch ownership is that bitches operate totally differently from male/male.

Males will conquer the opposition ands re claim his alpha position.
Bitches simply want RID of their competition.
To the bitch the problem has not been solved till the bitch runs away or she is dead.
Where can a bitch go , that is kept in captivity with walls and doors and fences?
Well she cant go anywhere!
She now has to defend herself because she knows death is her only other option.
But the aplha bitch wants her to die.
But things get really nasty when the under bitch learns how to fight as good or better than alpha bitch!
Things can go from a few scraps to full out war in a short few days , weeks or months of the initial first fight.
So between bitches you can have horrific injuries , even death.
Of course us humans quickly intervene and keep said bitches well seperated but for the long haul it is just to problematic and risky for the average family to operate for the next X amount of years.
Many people say the dogs are civilised pets and not wild animals. That theirs are spayed/neutered and would not behave in such a basic way. Well that is what an animal is.
A consequence of its instincts.
It is foolish to think that just because a dog comes over and kisses and smooches a human, means he is incapable of behaving like a dog!
Whats the old adage?
You can humanise a dog as much as you like, but you cant take the dog out of the dog?
