Twitching and jerking during sleep???

Kaybie (12 weeks old) dreams all the time! Her feet are almost always going while she is sleeping and her face twitches. She also sticks her tongue in and out......it's hilarious!

Zoey sticks her tongue out too, and will 'suckle' while she's sleeping. The other night I was talking to my Mom on the phone, and she was lying at my feet sleeping, and she started 'woof-woofing' in her dream. Then the legs started going... sooo cute. My mom wished she could see it becuase I was laughing so hard!

Bailey does it all the time. She likes to lay across my stomach so I usually end up with scratches if I don't have a shirt on. Last night her back legs were pointing at my head and I don't know what she was dreaming about but she kicked me like a kangaroo. She caught me in the chin with one leg and the nose with the other. I thought she broke my nose. I said "ow" and she looked up at me with a "how dare you wake me" look.

You know, every dog I ever knew growing up did this too. And I've always felt so bad because they seem to be having a bad dream or to be in distress.
So I always wake our Barkley up to "save him" from his bad dream. LOL

Now I am reading "The Dog Whisperer" and I just read the part yesterday about this. In the book, we learn that in that REM stage of sleep is where our little ones work out most of their stress and I'm actually doing him a disservice by waking him. It still breaks my heart to think he's being tormented in his dreams by monsters or even worse, the cat!

Dreamin

Our new puppy jerks a lot in his sleep. I assumed he was dreaming but sometimes he'll move his legs almost in full running motion. I am pretty sure he's dreaming, but this isn't anything to worry about like a siezure or anything is it?

Had a boxer for many years when I was young, and got two for my retirement years. They all do that. Sometimes they also whine or yelp in their sleep. Nothing to worry about. It seems like they are having fun in their slep, running and jumping.

Well, sure, it may sound bad, but my dogs make the most horrible whining sounds when they see something they can't wait to chase.

I bet in her dreams, my bitch hears me say "Mamie, would you like to get that squirrel?" and then I remove her leash and collar and say "go get it!"

We always laugh at Tanner when he dreams...we think he dreams about chasing bunnies (his favorite passtime) because he runs like the wind and then stops suddenly...we figure in his dreams he ACTUALLY catches the rabbits.

My two will jerk, whine & yelp in their sleep. Buster's eyelids will flutter, it looks scary because his eyes will be rolled back in his head & you can see them everytime they twitch

Blizzy would bark/growl/run/howl/whine all the time while sleeping. I always found myself laughing and then thought "ohh poor baby, what nasty monster is bothering you now". The first few times ithappened I got a bit scared until my DH said, "hey we dream and talk and do stuff in our sleep, she's doing the same thing". Yup she was. Many times I was awaken by her barking or growling. Scared me half to death since she normally only did that when there was "danger" in her eyes. Only to look down and see that she was sleeping. My nightstand bears the battle scars of her "running" in her sleep..heehee.

My kittie who was very close w/Blizzy has taken over the tradition now. She now twitches, meows and "runs" in her sleep. Thankfully she's too little to do any damage to my furniture. appicon
