Tug is a great game to play with your dog as long as you set some ground rules. My rules are; they should release when asked, only take the rope when told it's okay and the game ends when I say. And if my two ever get over the top in play, the game ends immediately.

Get the boxer magazine at the national pet store it has good tips about games. The best advice is set limits and make sure you can end the game when you need to. I play with my 3 when they let me but if one is getting carried away I can say settle and their name and get them to calm down.

Joey and I play tug of war all the time. He also knows the "drop it" command so when the game gets to much all I have to do is tell him to "drop it" and he does.

Charlie Paper & I play tug all the time. I think its a great game to play as long as the dog knows to stop when told to stop. Charlie is VERY good at stopping when I either tell him "give" or "leave it". Usually I let Charlie win, just to make him feel better, and he'll strut around the house with his toy like he's the champ!

Exactly how we play tug. Tug is Billy's favourite game.

haha, my Aspen does the same winner strut...but then comes back and pushes the rope into my leg until i take it again. I think she likes to rack up the score.

my general rule of thumb is,,,when my guy growls, the game is over,,he learned at a very early age that, playtime is for play only.
