Tyson graduates from obedience in two weeks and our instructor wants each dog to do a trick on the night of graduation. Anyone have any ideas? I need something Tyson could learn quickly. He already knows "shake" so if all else fails we'll just do that. This is just for fun so its not as if it depends on his passing the class. Thanks! :)

Does he give kisses on command? Maybe you could re-work the shake into a "high five" or a "wave" Can he "speak"? Maybe you could get him to kidney bean on command (maybe call it the "twist") Anyone who doesn't have a boxer will think this is great!!

Good luck!

You could extend that into "wave." Do you use a clicker? I can describe how to teach it with a clicker if you would like...

Or "roll-over" this took Clarice about 10 days working everday for about 5 minutes.

Tell me if you would like to hear about either one...

I'm not much on teaching tricks...the only thing mine have been taught other than their obedience is...

Pru was taught to open the screen door and let herself and the other dogs out to potty. I'll tell her to go outside and she'll go to the door, stand on hind legs and push handle w/ paw. Looks so cute.:D

Tyson was taught to give hugs. I'll clap and say "give me a hug" and he'll jump up on me.

I've tried the hug thing w/ the other 2 but they get so damn hyper, excited and wiggly they just scratch me up, bust my lip, etc. I've learned to avoid the "hug" w/ Pru and Sheeba.;)

Oooh, cool idea! And he already knows this. Just by saying "Twist Tyson" in an excited, upbeat voice while walking backwards would probably do the trick.

I'm gonna try this when I get home.:D

Hooligan's best tricks are rolling over all the way, playing dead and doing the woo woo song on command, we also taught him to sit with a cookie on his head and not eat it till he is told.

That boy will do anything for cookies :)

If it were me, I'd tell the instructor that my Boxer is NOT a circus clown and doesn't DO tricks. But, since he asked for one, here it is: "Tyson! Leave it!" and turn around and walk away!!

:D

I was going to suggest "roll over", but I like the "twist" idea too! That would be a hit :D

Joe learned roll over in about two minutes and it is so funny to watch with his long legs waving in the air as he does it. Now every time I tell him to sit (since that is how we started out) it is a combo sit roll...he just kind of dives into it! Silly dog smashicon

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

We graduate in two weeks also, our instructor is teaching us tricks next week for our graduation. I'm trying to teach Mickey to roll over, but he hasn't quite figured out what I want him to do. I don't want him to learn to shake because our lab does it all the time and it's annoying! When he doesn't get what he wants, he puts that huge paw in your lap or on your arm. My husband is supposed to be teaching Mickey to play dead, that one should be pretty easy if you can get him to stand up and then go "down" real fast. Good luck!
