I was hoping I'd get to see how Laila would be with a tree this year, since it will be her first Christmas. However, I don't think the construction on our house (flooded by Isabelle) will be finished anytime soon, so the decorations will have to stay packed. She will have an opportunity to investigate/eat my Mom's tree. So we'll see how that goes.

I'm sure I'll have a time with her and the bows on the presents though!

Glad I'm not the only one in this boat...lol

I ended up putting some pepper on the low branches of the tree and on a few low hanging decorations, Miss H seems to have been good since that first day. Maybe the novelty has worn off, maybe she got a wiff of the pepper...who knows.

Everyday I get up and the bottom row of branches are all bent up and skew-if (fake tree) I think someone is rubbing their moosh or itchy eyes on my tree during the night???

hmmm...that's gotta be Jed, he's the itchy man around here!

Maggie's Mommy

How old is that ornament again???

My little Miss Maggie is into her second Christmas season with the family, and so far, we've only had one tragedy to the ornaments. (Knock on wood)

Maggie was in a "tiff" last evening because no one was paying attention to her, and she decided she was gonna do something to get Mommy's or Daddy's attention. She did her "I am mad at you" snort and tiptoed to the living room. In about 5 minutes, she boxer burned thru the dining room and into the family room where I was at...jumped on my lap and started giving me boxer kisses. That's not a good thing...Mags done got herself into big time trouble. Sure 'nuff, I walk into the living room and I see it! There, lying on the carpet was one of my oldest ornaments on the tree. What used to be a Minute Man from 1976 (remember all the bicentennial hoopla?), is now bald, missing every stitch of clothes, hat gone, and drum destroyed piece of gnawled up, contorted piece of plastic that if you look closely at it may - and the key word is MAY - resemble a doll-like figure. There was no sense in scolding Mags for what she did; she didn't know that ornament was almost 30 years old. But let me tell ya, I went around the Christmas tree and rearranged the ornaments and put all of the oldest ornaments up farther on the tree out of Ms. Mags' reach. This is just something that I'll have to remember next year.

::sigh::

Well, I thought it was going great but it seems, Rocky, might have gotten mad at Santa, lol. He got out of his room while my mom was out and we got home to a war zone. Poor Santa was left on the ground :(

But, fortunately the little candle he holds didn't shatter so Rocky was out of harms way

The tree is going up this weekend. Last year she wasn`t to bad with the tree but she hated Santa she killed him on more than one occasion.

We kept telling her if you kill Santa you don`t get any presents.

But with that face what can you do.

I loved reading everyone tales of Christmas tree mishaps. It's so nice to know I'm not the only one out there fighting the Christmas tree battle.

My male Tuffy has always had a problem with the tree. The first years the tree spent more time down then up. So now we set it in the corner of the room and securer it with a nail and string to the wall. Thats works for the tree staying up, now our problem is Tuffys so upset he can't play with it, he now hikes a leg and marks it.  But like everyone says it's hard to stay mad after looking at that sweet face.

he now hikes a leg and marks it.

Luckily Coal hasn't done this, but my parent's beagle has.
So far Coal has sniffed the tree and stared at the blinking lights, but hasn't really messed with the ornaments.
The presents under the tree...well that's a different story.
He's already unwrapped one or two...okay 4, so now they are all stacked up on top of piano. I guess he just assumed they were all for him!

We have some bell ornaments that we put at the bottom of the tree that make noise if someone is messing with the tree, so we can stop the mischief. I like to put the tree in front of the window, and the dogs like to look out of the window, so we have problems!

One year as we were taking down the tree, we took the ornaments off one day and left the bare tree up, and Dukie hiked his leg and peed in it!! Brat. We took the affected branches off and washed in the bath tub.

This is going to be the first year we have a tree with the "kids" and I am VERY concernedsmashicon .

They think anything on or near the ground is a toy. We'll probably have to keep them out of that room.

I think that's why God gave them such cute faces....so you don't KILL themsmashicon smashicon
