I've been trying to teach Boozer to stay with the treat on his nose, then catch it in his mouth when I say "OK".....well he's got the balancing the treat on his nose part, but when I say OK, he puts his head down and lets it slide off to the ground! LOL :) It's funny, but obviously not what I'm trying to accomplish! Would appreciate any tips. (As a side note, one time when I first started this, I put the treat on his nose, pulled my hand away, and he didn't realize it was still there!! He was looking around like, "hey! where'd that treat go??"....too cute!!!) LOL

LOL, Dakota used to do that too (slide off her nose). I just kept up and I even used her FAVORITE toy, her ball. She got it eventually. Good luck!!

Good point about the ball. Maybe start w/ something larger so it's easier for him to catch, and once he's gotten the hang of it, you can make the treat smaller and smaller.

I tought my dogs that trick using a larger biscuit.. medium sized. You lay it so the length of the bone is on their nose, letting it be on the edge so it will almost fall of itself with the slightest move. You keep working on the dog grabbing it when it falls off and do NOT let them have it if it falls on the ground. After they get the hang of catching it off their nose.. than you can work into the tougher things like making them sit until you let them take it..

Good luck :)

Gina Ozzy did the same thing, it was so funny, I put the treat on his nose and it just stayed there, (such a funny nose) and then when he finally realizes there is something there he would just put his head down and it would fall off too. Now he can catch it!

i ve been trying to get tyson to catch it for a year now. Getting him to hold it was very easy, i can leave the room for a few minutes and come back and he still holding it. The whole catch thing he just dont get. i'll get it even if it takes a few more years.

LOL that's cute. What used to really crack me up was when I told Dakota to hold it and she would, but then she would go crossed-eyed trying to keep her eyes on it. Sometimes I would say OKAY and she would still be staring at this treat with her eyes crossed - than after a second OKAY (with higher voice and clap of hands), she would flip it up and catch it.

Toffee knows that trick too. She thinks it is SO silly, LOL!

If she tips her head and lets it fall, she doesn't get the treat. I snap my fingers and then she catches it. But you can tell that she is just humoring me with this trick!

Iv been thinking about this lately because I have also been trying to teach Dorian the same thing. He's got the balancing the treat on the nose part but, like your Boozer, drops it on the ground on the "Ok" command. I came up with an idea, what about training them seperatly as 2 different tricks, then combining them. I havent tryed it myself yet, but fully intend to give it a go. For instance, tossing him a treat and giving him a command like "catch", and teaching him to initally just catch the treat in his mouth using the not giving it to him method if he drops it on the floor. Then once hes mastered both, trying to combine them. Let me know if you make any progress and how you did it. :)
