Traveling ?'s

Hello all! I am about to move to Georgia and I am renting a truck to do it. I just wanted to know if it was safe to transport dozer in the back of the truck. I want him to ride up front but he is way to hyper when he is in the car and I am afraid that he would end up making me crash the truck! He would be in a secured crate and I just wanted to know how safe it was? I am worried about the fumes and things of that sort...

Anyone else done this before or have any advice? at this point I am open to suggestions.

BTW: the truck is not opened it is a 16' moving truck enclosed!

We traveled with Lucy and Patch in a moving truck from MD to FL and both dogs sat in the front with us (it was very close quarters) They slept the whole way pretty much. I wasnt going to put them in the back. Will his crate fit in the front too?

It is very not safe to travel with him in the open-air back of the truck, even crated.

I would try to put his crate in the front, or restrict his movement with a car harness. If you slowly introduce him to the car harness, he should be ok with it by the time you move. . .make it a fun training thing, with treats and all.

id be worried that the load might shift and land on him if you needed to make a hasty move while driving

Definitely not in the back of the truck! It will get way too hot. Use a car harness. I would start getting him used to it now.

I would worry about things shifting too. Not to mention that moving will be stressful for him and keeping him away from you during the move would just make things worse. Either try a car harness or put his crate up front if it will fit. Another option (although not the best one) - check with your vet about mildly sedating him for the trip (just make sure it's not ACE).

I would think things would be pretty safe, but I would just worry about him getting air back there since it is enclosed.

I would try the harness like others are suggesting. They have traveling ones that will buckle into a seat belt and would keep him from gettin in your way.

I didn't even think of the car harness! The vet gave me some sedatives but said that since we were traveling during the night that he would sleep pretty much the whole way anyhow once he settled down! Thanks again! Wish me luck! 15 and half hours! OMG! I am going to be certifiable!

BTW- I use the seatbelt harness. It works great until Jasmine starts to stand up and turn around. She seems to always get herself tangled up
