Tough Toys?

Anyone have any suggestions for toys that can stand up to a Boxer's play?

Bella literally destroys just about every toy we buy her, except her Kongs.

Whenever I get her a stuffed animal it lasts maybe two weeks at most, she "unstuffs" them, she doesn't eat the stuffing, she just likes gutting them! LOL!

She had a "Wubby" and that didn't last much longer, about three weeks until she got the balls out from inside.

I went to the pet store in early October and bought her what I "thought" were some toys that would hold up a bit longer, but no luck! She LOVES stuffed animals, but none of them last!

She doesn't like rope toys as much. Tug of War is her favorite game, but she still prefers the stuffed animals over all. Every time I have to throw one away I have to make sure she isn't watching or she cries!

Any suggestions for a stuffed animal that might last longer than a week or two for her Christmas Presents?

Thanks!

Sounds just like Tyson. I am still looking for that toy. :) If I happen to find one, I'll post. Tyson just loves stuffed animals. He has his kong toys, but still prefers soft, squishy stuffed animals.

Yup, same thing at our house

Actually, we still have a "Dirty Rotten Kitty" that Creek had before BF and I met... that means it's at least 4 years old.... however, about a year ago I did stitch up a few holes in the seams, and it's missing an arm, but that's still not bad for a BOXER toy! That's the closest to a "stuffed' toy that they haven't been able to COMPLETELY destroy.

Another one that Creek LOVES is Good Cuz/Bad Cuz -- the small ones. Of course, she did pop the squeaker after a few days, but she still LOVES the toy!

And we keep all the stuffed toys after they've been torn, too -- most of the time if the stuffing is coming out, I'll just pull all of it out and they don't mind playing with the "carcass" I think it's SO funny the things that Creek chooses to pull out of her toy bin... a lot of the time they grab the smallest little thing -- like what USED to be a foot, or a leg, or an ear -- and try to play tug-of-war with it :p Silly girls

Oh, another CHEAP toy (that I've been wearing out lately, since we are broke!) is an old t-shirt -- especially if it's been worn recently by you or DH and still smells like you. Creek goes nuts for anything that rips (she loves the sound of it I think) so I just let them go at it. Or you can tie knots in it, for a slightly more durable toy :) But no matter how long they last, I think it's a great way to "recycle" those old shirts that are just too far gone to wear or give away!

Try a Jolly ball. It's a rubber ball with a handle on it. We still have the same one from when Bayleigh was a pup. Good/Bad Cuz are great too.

For stuffed animals, I go to Goodwill and buy. You can usually find a stuffie for a couple of dollars. If you don't want your baby to unstuff, pull out the stuffing yourself and give them the "skin".

I bought some fleece material and cut into long strips. I then braided 3 strips and knotted at each end. This one has lasted through 2 dogs playing tug and endless washings.

Shooter would tear apart a stuffy in less than an hour. She had a method to it to; start by chewing off/spitting out the plastic eyes and nose, then would go for the limbs, and then just pull all the stuffing out and put it on the floor, then would chew and swing around what was left of it. We gave up on buying any expensive stuffed animals - $1 ones from the dollar store and that was it.

Now Stella hasn't figured out how to rip them apart yet, but I'm sure it will be soon!

I have the same problem with my boy. I used to buy him all sorts of fun squeaker stuffed toys but he'd rip them to shreds within a day. If I didn't fully monitor him during those times I'd be woken up at 5 AM the following morning to him throwing up big cotton wads. I had had enough at this point and remembered a tire toy my other dogs would go nuts for. So I bought one for Ace and it's his absolute favorite. It squeaks, has a tuggy rope and is darn near indestructable no matter how much he whips it around and chews on it. They sell at Petsmart for about $7 for a large one but I'm sure you could find the same one for a bit cheaper. Unfortunately I can't help you with a good stuffed animal but this toy entertains my boy for hours.

Ok, this isn't plush either, but I can't believe what it has stood up to. There is one of these at the dog park we go to and It has survived forever! I can't tell you how many times this thing has had a dog attached to eat corner pulling with all its might.

Abbey isn't really into destroying her toys, but I've heard a lot of good things about the "chuckit" brand in general being able to stand up to a destructive dog when no other toy could.

I've also heard that the "firehose" material toys are pretty indestructable.

The T-shirt idea made me think of this, but my aunt would take an old tube sock and fill it with other old socks and then tie the end off. It isn't indestructable, but it something you would throw out anyway. She called the "binkies."

The cuz and kong toys are the only toys that Joey hasnt completely destroyed, although the poor cuz's feet didnt last a day, he chewed one off and so I had to cut the other off so he would swollow it. All is good now that it doesnt have feet. Joey LOVES his rope toys but they will eventually give out too, he likes to tear the threads apart, but they still last a few months!
I am definitly going to get the "flying squirl" toy next time im at pet smart!

My two are not very destructive, however Mali did go through a phase of ripping apart toys. She has a ring made by Tuffie's Pet Toys. It looks pretty touigh to me. Check out mydogtoy.com.

My group just loves the old tube sock toys. They have one that managed to make its way into the backyard and they have a huge time with that one. I go get the cheapest tube socks I can and just stuff and tie until they are too tattered to play with anymore. Bella is really good with her toys here at the office, she hasn't torn one of them up. Funny that they remain intact when the toys at home don't last an hour!
