TOTW ~ formula change :(

FYI ~~ totw changed the prairie formula , back in march , it has JUST hit my local store - after 600 in vet bills trying to figure out why my pups had liquid stools - i am talking the kind that splatter on the wall !! and doing insane tests , a little ( ok - a TON ) of mind racking , and detail splitting lead me to the conclusion it was the kibble - so i called CS number on the bag. THE CS HELP WAS INCREDIBLE ! I WAS NEVER EVEN PUT ON HOLD! & didnt have to push a number for english !! after speaking with the ON STAFF VET we figured out that the change in stools was due to the change in bison. **** :0 ***** the dear in our country have a virus called " wasting" they basically starve to death. so TOTW decided it wasnt worth the risk on buying HEALTHY dear , so are buying out of the country - expensive. they replaced the Venison with buffalo - and now only add venison for flavor ~~

well my guys didnt handle such a sudden change ~ and dont do well with it. TOTW told me to take back the currant bag ~ & i changed to wetlands. NOW that i KNOW what i am dealing with ~ hopefully i can do a gradual food change with there bland diet.

i am going broke on vet bills & chicken breasts - maybe they will send me a cpl coupons ??

but in the end i felt , like i was treated with respect & was impressed with speaking with a vet that listens to my concerns ! with out sending a bill ... so hopefully we can stay with this company ....

JUST WANTED ALL OF MY TOTW FRIENDS TO BE AWARE OF THIS CHANGE ~ IN CASE YOU ARE HAVING SIMILAR PROBLEMS !!

Sorry you had to spend that much money to find that out :( but glad you did! I think I might stay away from the prarie formula for now as well. 'Splatter on the wall' sounds much worse than what you would expect from a slight forumla change.

the formula change was not 'slight" they doubled the buffalo to replace the venison ( more or less ) then added some quality ingredients. still a great kibble .. but if u have a boxer - thats a HUGE food change ~~ they did say the bags are marked with "now with more bison" to me that doesnt say " YOU MAJORLY CHANGED MY DOGS FOOD" i didnt even notice ( its in the spot that used to say "purified water" ....

it should be slashed a crossed the front - IMO ... the kinda of ppl that spend this kind of money on dog food - WANT TO KNOW IF ITS CHANGED !!!! ok i vented .. 600.00 later !

Wow! I use TOTW but only the pacific stream version and only protein is fish so hopefully we're safe. Honestly, I would get your vet bills and mail in copies to TOTW and request that they pay them. They just might. Worst case scenario they say no, but they just may reimburse you and if not you're no worse off than you are now. I completely agree with you that it should be in HUGE letters across the front and should say MUCH more than "now more bison" for sure (which you also may want to point out). Glad you found the issue and can hopefully get them back on track. After that happened to me with the Canidae food (when it went from gluten free to gluten filled) I have started reading the bag's ingredients each and every time I buy a bag just to be on the safe side. Totally know how you feel, but I sent my vet bill to Canidae when it happened and they reimbursed me for the vet visit as well as the medication so may be worth a shot.

We are just finishing up a bad of Wetlands and I was going to go to the store tomorrow to switch back to Prairie but now I'm wondering if it should just stick with the Wetlands for a little longer. My boy seems to have an iron stomach as long as there aren't grains in the food so I don't know if this would affect him or not. Maybe I'll just buy a little bag and see how that goes if I end up going with the yellow bag. This is only his 3rd bag of the Wetlands but I've been going back and forth between the two kinds every couple bags. If I end up buying the yellow prairie bag I'll let you all know how it goes.

I would think treating the change in formulas as if its a change in food would help considerably. Try transitioning instead of a complete new meal of the prarrie.

We ended up buying a new bag of Wetlands... Maybe next bag we will try going to the yellow bag and see how that goes. Although, the yellows bags at the store weren't the ones that said "more bison" so I wouldn't have been able to give you our results with the formula change anyways.
