Listen, it's obvious that you aren't okay with that horrendous behavior (we're with you and I'm sure no one meant to be accusatory), but I was thinking if it were me, if the female turns out to be pregnant, I would offer to get the dews and tails done for the jerk. I know it's horrible helping him, but in my book, it's helping the babies from having to go through even more trauma than they're already going to have to deal with in that house. Just my opinion...

Then I too would string him up...the JERK.

I appologize for not correctly reading your Original Post. As I read through the others I got it in my mind that your friends BF was the one who wanted to mutilate the pups, etc; I misinterpreted. In which case, although your friend and not you would be the "guilty by association" I understand now that her bf is only being irresponsible about having his intact male and wanting to stud him.
As I was understanding it (incorrectly i see now) your friends bf was the one with the sick ideas, which is why I told of a former friend of mine... People who can commit violent acts on animal are more than capable of translating violence to other people.
I would deff. help your friend to realize that her BF studding his male with this female or any female, is NOT a good idea. Also, if his reasonings for having a pupy is to keep it cages and aggressive, he shouldnt own a dog to begin with, hopefully she can help him realize that.

So all I could say was "Oh my God". I was in such disbelief I couldn't even respond. But to make matters worse I am told that the BF wants to keep the white/male pup (if they are "lucky" enough to get one in the litter), and NOT socialize him but keep him locked up in a cage nearly all the time so that he turns into a great guard dog that everyone will fear! This dog will not be able to play with the other dogs in the household and not be taken to any locations that would enable him to meet humans.....it will be a total protection dog.....

I understand your relationship with your friend is important to you, but I do hope you made it VERY clear that you'd report her BF for ANIMAL CRUELTY if he actually follows through on the above statement. If he wants a protection dog, get some damn training! There are places that train dogs for protection, and while I would never do it, it's a much better alternative to the moronic idea listed above.

I would not hesitate to turn in anyone, my best friend and her boyfriend included, for such inhumane treatment of an animal.

What a sad world we live in. :( I can't even comment on the other parts of this thread...

you poor dear, i understand what it is like to sit with a good friend and hear some totally amazing information. Stuff that makes you wonder what planet these people live on. What you were told must of made you feel physically ill, i know it would me. My mother's co-worker is a BYB of boxers, and when i listen to my mother telling me about how he has this boxer and that boxer and he is gonna do this or that, i just have to tell her to stop, that i am NOT interested in hearing about it. Unfortuanlty, breeding animals is not a regulated activity, so there is nothing we can do but educate and pray. I am truly sorry you had to hear that stuff, i bet at that time (and possibly now) you needed a big hug. Education is a slow process, especially when you are fighting common social norms. and by the amount of animals in the shelter, byb is an all too common norm. We all do what we can and leave the rest in God's hands. if you decide to offer to pay for the docking/dew claws, please PM me, i dont have a lot of money, but my big caboose can skip a friday night pizza for a cause like this.

I also want to apologize for my immediate response to your thread. I think I was just in such shock and reacted without thinking it thru. I do realize that it is your friend's bf and not your friend that wants to keep a puppy from the litter(let all pray there isn't one) crated all the time.

I think you are on the right track with trying to educate your friend the best you can and maybe she can get thru to the bf. It's just a bad situation all the way around but I know this whole thing got started because you cared and were very upset yourself.

I am sorry for what this is doing to you. I cannot even imagine having to go through this. Of course you would not lose a friend who has been with you for so many years. Even though it is wrong and I feel it may only lead to more, perhaps if you offered to help with the dock & dew claw removal it would at least ease your conscience. I still am appalled because this only solves one part of the problem. Locking a dog in a cage to make it more aggressive is inhumane. How do we know if these people are successful in one litter that they will not try to do it again and again. Maybe contacting the Humane Society would help. I am at a loss for words. Please know you have my support as well as those of many members here at BW.
