I am sorry for what this is doing to you. I cannot even imagine having to go through this. Of course you would not lose a friend who has been with you for so many years. Even though it is wrong and I feel it may only lead to more, perhaps if you offered to help with the dock & dew claw removal it would at least ease your conscience. I still am appalled because this only solves one part of the problem. Locking a dog in a cage to make it more aggressive is inhumane. How do we know if these people are successful in one litter that they will not try to do it again and again. Maybe contacting the Humane Society would help. I am at a loss for words. Please know you have my support as well as those of many members here at BW.

Exactly. The great thing about this post is that it informs all of us on what we *can* do for poor animals like these. I am also suprised that the way they are planning to dock the tails is legal.

You are in an awkward position but at least now you have some more opinions/facts to back you up when you try to talk so more sense into them. Thanks for caring and trying to do something for these boxers and not just stand there like an innocent bystander.

People reeeeally are stupid. A woman I know from work was complaining about her adult male llama who was really "being mean lately", she was very annoyed with his bad behavior. Then later she mentions in passing that they recently put big rubber band on his testicles, (to home neuter him). I couldn't speak for a few seconds..., then said, hmmmmmm, well that explains his bad mood, lets tie your husbands balls up like that and see if he gets a tad cranky! She did not like that much, said it is common farm practice with livestock, and my boss almost fired me, but dang, talk about a no brainer....

This person should not own a dog. And I would be calling every single animal rights group across the US. This is a terrible story. Torture and animal abuse. Him leaving a dog in a cage all day so it becomes mean. The only person he is going to hate is his master for keeping him locked up all day. No animal should have to live like that. I have called many of times about the way people treat the dogs in this town. As a member of AKC, PETA, HSUS, ASPCA ,etc I gets lots of support. This is about as bad as the people who train Pit Bulls to fight.

This really makes me sad. A dogs life is being compromised.

There is an article in the latest issue (Summer 2004) of ASPCA's Animal Watch on "barbaric tail docking" (page 47). Maybe you could pass it on to your friend and her boyfriend so they could read it and keep it in mind. I know they are not the ones that made the comments about the tail docking, but if they're going to associate with the guy that did, well.... maybe it would help if they see the article. Maybe it will prevent them from continuing to try to breed the dogs.
