Boxer Pal
Last week I found a puppy running in one of the hay fields near my house. When we got him home he was nothing but skin and bones and oh so hungry. You can see a picture in my gallery thing taken the day after we got him. This was also the day that the temps here in GA were in the teens, this poor guy wouldnt have lived if I hadnt found him. I had a feeling he was a boxer/pit mix and was guessing he was around 12 weeks old.
Yesterday we went for the vet check and first round of shots. Vet confirmed that he was the boxer/pit mix. She said he looked as healthy as he could be given what he had gone through and was making a nice recovery ( he weighed in at 23 lbs after a week of 5 small feedings a day). What surprised both of us was when she looked at his teeth. He already had his adult canines in! She puts his age at 5 months and said his malnutrition probably stunted his growth and at most he will end up around 45 pounds.
Is there anything I should be working on during the 5 -12 month age? he does very well with his potty training doesnt mind sleeping in his crate, already sits to get his leash on and sits when i open or close the door to go in or outside. He are working on introducing him to the rest of the gang in the house, a elderly westie and 6 cats ( 4 of them were also rescues). I also take him over to visit my moms rescues ( the joys of living in the country everyone dumps their unwanteds out here. we try and keep the ones that we think that wouldnt be adopted in a shelter. We had seen some pretty bad abuse cases and they ended up living here in comfort for the rest of their lives).
I am thinking of maybe doing some agility training with him once it warms up a bit and he gets a little more weight on him, so I am sure you will see me asking more questions. Mods, if I put this in the wrong spot i am sorry wasnt sure where it went.
He has been named Hank, and as he puts on more weight and grows will try and post a few more picts.
