To Crop and Clip or Not To Crop and Clip that is the question..........

Reba has her tail and natural ears. We chose her that way. While reading a boxer book, it quoted a study that dogs communicate with their tails and 16 year old son decided to ask our breeder to keep hers. We had to decide if we wanted her when she was a day old,(so they would not dock her)
Her white tip is so cute and it curls like a husky's tail. I love the knub, but her tail is very pretty and makes her even more special.

Vegas had her tail docked and declaws removed at just a few days old and I've been battling with the decision to have her ears done as well. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to leave them natural because it is no longer necessary for show in Canada. There is a paragraph in the standard that states how the ears should look if left natural and to be honest, my Vegas has beautiful natural ears. They fall very nicely and aren't too large. They add to her character and expression. The more I look at them, the more I love them.
Now, I don't know how she'll do in show without the cropped ears, but she can't be excused because of it here and that's reason enough for me to just leave them alone.

Natural Ears, Docked Tail, Boxer Attitude!
Rita's tail was docked when we got her, but I wouldn't change it. She looks fantastic. We didn't crop her ears because we don't plan to show her, we love the way she looks now, and it seemed so pointless to crop her ears and make her look more aggressive than she really is.
On the other hand -- don't believe that natural ears are altogether easier. They will start to "fly", and if you want them to look good you will have to tape them.

I have to say I love the nubs. I have dogs only with docked tails. When I started my search for another Boxer I could have gotten a very sweet little girl but she had her tail. I know there is nothing wrong with a tail but I just prefer not to have dogs with them. I've fostered a couple of German Shepherds, a Collie, and a pitbull and all of them should have been charged with illegal use of a weapon. :D Those tails sure can hurt. 
Ears don't really matter to me. I've had both a natural and a cropped. That's the way they came to me. If I ever got a puppy I'd probably keep the natural ears just because I don't plan on showing.

Don't Clip!
Our Daisy Girl's tail was docked before we got her and we LOVE her floppy ears. There is no need for clipping of the ears! Of course, to each his or her own, but personally it makes the pup look mean. There is enough stereotyping in the world and I think not clipping the ears helps with that. Boxers are a terrific breed. They don't need anymore "ammunition" to help ban this breed as well. Keep your pup looking friendly as well as trained and I think they will be looked upon as a friendly, well mannered pup, not put in the same catagory as Pitties or Rotties! (Not that I don't love them as well, because I do!) Just thinking of the ignorant ppl out there that don't have a clue what they are talking about. Anyhow, moving on....again, my personal opinion as well as my hubby Randy's, don't clip!

And well as my gal friends all say "chicks dig the nub!" nothing like seeing spastic nub when he's happy.
I once saw a pincher at the vet in process of having his ears done and he looked miserable and oh my heart went out to the lil tyke. I would just fall apart if I did that to my puppy for asthetics. If there was a medical reason for it, I'd survive it but it'd be awful. And the only show my pooch is for is the race around the house with woobie trailing out the jaws giggle show. So he keeps his ears!
And I have to say his ears are expressive, whether he's got them peeled back and out of reach for tag, or if he's got one raised and quirked off to the side while the other is perfectly straight...his ears actually tell us when he's happy, or not feeling well, or scared they have expressions all their own.

I totally agree with Missy. I adopted Tae through rescue and she came from a BYB, hence the natural tail. It's so cute with its white tip! Though I will probably have a Boxer one day that's docked (since most are), I think the presence of a tail is an advantage when it comes to communicating with other dogs. Besides that, I can look at Tae's tail and see what she's thinking due to the way she holds it!
