Well yesterday I took my deaf girl Yuki in to get spayed and totally forgot to mention to them not to use ace. (I know totally irresposible of me trust me I've been kicking myself repeatedly)
Well about 5 pm yesterday I finally think about it but since it was too late to do anything and the vet never called me I figured everything went fine. My vet has 2 boxers herself so I figured she must've known not to use Ace and they had to have used something else.
Well fast forward to this morning, I went to pick my girl up and the first thing said to me was has the vet spoke with you yet? Well Yuki had a severe aniphyllactic shock reaction to her preanesthetic sedative. Now I'm just ticked! First thing out of my mouth was, well did you use ace? She says yes I pretty much tell her how stupid she is and anyone that knows anything about boxers should know you don't use ace. She says well we use it on all of the other dogs and have never had any problems. i told her that they need to quit looking at all dogs as the same and realize that dogs like people all breeds have different needs.
Took my dog and stormed out before I said something I would regret.

Now my mom is saying that I should get any information that I can on ace and bring it in there. She says that rightfully (especially considering that I bring all 3 of my dogs there) they should have forgave the charges from the ace and the epinephrine, and the antihistamine that they used as a courtesy.
Does anyone know where there is any information stated by a veterinarian that I could print off and show to them and also any other websites where I can find something legit to back me up.
I figure if it doesn't help me maybe it will help the next poor boxer that gets brought into there.
Needless to say I am switching vets right away.
Thanks ahead of time for any help with this.

SWITCH VETS!!!

When I had Molly spayed I seriously annoyed the vet clinic because I kept saying NO ACE NO ACE NO ACE. Finally, the vet said, Don't worry! We don't even have Ace here in the clinic!

Apparently, it is "old school" and there are much better drugs out there today. Just the fact that your vet still uses it shows that they aren't up to date on the latest science.

I would have thrown a fit. Call me a crazy lady, but Molly is my BABY and I would have gone psycho on those people!!!

How is your girl? Has she had any lasting affects of the Ace?

Sending hugs and wiggles,
Kristen & Molly

Shes's been fine so far we've been totally spoiling her and having her take it easy. But she just wants to play and snuggle just like normal. And trust me I am definitley switching vets! I don't even want to go back there to get her stitches out.
I walked out of there making their vet tech feel like a complete idiot.
But for now I'm gathering as much info as possible and keeping a close eye on my baby and spoiling her rotten.

First of all, I hope Yuki is OK. It must have infuriated you that they didn't even call to let you know she had gone into anaphylactic shock!! Poor baby girl! I agree with ScamperButt - switch vets!! But before you do, have a talk with your vet - you mention that she has boxers - and ask her if she would use ace on her babies.

I also totally agree with everything your mom says. For starters, there is a sticky at the top of the Health Issues Forum that you can open and copy, along with information from the link. There's also a wealth of information on the internet if you need more. But I would definitely go back to your vet with all of that in hand. The primary thing I would want to know would be why she used ace if she has boxers herself - she should know better!!!! Hopefully, you will find another vet to check Yuki and remove her stitches. Please keep us posted. I am so sorry this happened to you, and send lots of healing vibes for your girl.

I agree!!! DUMP THAT VET!!!!!! How awful that they would do such a thing!! And she has two boxers of her own!!!??? That's just flat out IGNORANCE! I'm afraid I'd be extremely irate.. And would have totally let them have it..
I'd sure be the one to spread the news about this vet to others in the area too.. ESPECIALLY those with boxers! Shoot.. I'd copy what is posted here in BW about ACE and send it to printed in LARGE TEXT AND IN RED to their office!

TaTanka 11mo's white male
Sequoia 8mo's white female

I definitley plan on going in there with a wealth of information.
I would've said more to them yesterday but I was so mad I was close to tears so I got out what I got made her feel like an idiot grabbed my dog and stormed out. There were two other people in there with their dogs that heard everything. And I've already told everyone I know. And made it a point to let them know the dang vet has 2 boxers herself. She should have known if she knows anything about her dogs at all.
But for an update, this morning Yuki is still ok eating good and resting even though she just wants to play. I'll keep everyone updated with how things go. I'm just praying that she has no after effects from the Ace.

For starters Im glad Yuki is okay. As for finding info on ACE and boxers, the sticky section at the top is avail to print out. Im still in shock they havent heard of that! Every book I got on the boxer breed says the same thing NO ACE. What really gets to me is that she has boxers and didnt know it, and shes a VET! I would remove my dog from her care immediatly.

I like Walkssoftly's idea! That clinic needs to be educated. And, the big red text couldn't hurt.... :)

Is there a LiveGuide or a Citysearch.com for your area? I'd go to those websites and type up a scathing review of that vet. You'd be surprised at how often people refer to those websites to see what other people think about things. I do it all the time before going to a new restaurant. When I picked my vet, I felt confident about my choice partly because her clinic had wonderful reviews on citysearch.
