Check with your neighborhood vacuum repairman. We were all ready to buy the Dyson and he told us that they still do clog and showed us where. Also not a great repair record. We ended up buying a Sebo which is like the Mercedes of vacuums (about the same price as the Animal Dyson) and has a better repair record

I have a Dyson and it is fantastic. You can actually purchase a turbo head which is meant to be great for pet hair. We dont have the turbo head but it still picks up Jacksons hair, as well as everything else.

It is actually quite scary (and gross) the first time you use it and see how much it actually picks up.

I checked Ebay, (completed items) for the Dyson Animal, and the prices are all over the map. Shipping went anywhere from free to $45.00. It still cost less there than a department store. I'd love to have one someday. I'm holding on to the hope that I can WOOT one someday. :) Love this website!

I've had a Miele cannister that's about to turn 10 years old & it hasn't needed a single repair! It was pricey, but, IMHO well worth it, based on it's excellent performance - suction now is as good as when I first got it. I had a Eureka cannister before that stunk as far as performance/suction, dust bag that was a pain to put in/remove and difficult to manuever. We have 2 stories, 2 dogs, flooring is hardwood with area rugs. The vac is light enough that I don't have trouble getting it up & down the stairs. It has a 3 filters, one of which is a HEPA (hubby has allergies) so this is helpful in getting the allergens out of the air. Nothing gets past these filters, it's a bag vacuum which I prefer over a cup type. The bag design is really good, when you need to change it, has a sliding closure on it so that the stuff in the bag won't come spilling out. Suction is great, no problems in getting up dog hair from any surface. You can adjust the length of the hose/tubing which is helpful for those of us that are vertically challenged (I'm 5'2", hubby is 6'1" - either one of us can use it without a problem), cord is quite long & retracts into vac which is a big plus, most of the tools stow on board in a built in compartment (only ones that don't are the hard floor head & a round brush head that's great for baseboards/moldings). The model I have has been discontinued, but I took a look at Miele's web site, comprable model now would be the White Star S314. Like the Dyson, it has a turbo head as well as a head for hard flooring. Miele's web site can be accessed at: www.mielevacuums.com.

Hope this helps,

I have a dyson, the yellow one, it seems to work well, in fact we have two. One that we bought another we won, if someone wants a deal on a used one pm me. They seem to be fine, easy to clean, you can take them completely apart and clean them. Great on Max's fur.

Ya. Same here. We bought the yellow one.

There's really no reason to spend the extra $$$ on the animal one.
Especially for boxer hair.

So far we are thrilled with it and when I consider the fact that I go through a $100 vac every year, the $400 price tag really isn't bad.

I just spent $412 total for a top of the line full gear Dyson... can't wait to get it. I know, I probably could have just gotten a yellow one, but with a baby coming and my parents worrying over the dogs being in the same house, having this Dyson will help me keep the sofas in perfect shape right before the grandparents come over... :0

I got the Dyson Animal and I think it is the best vacuum I've ever had. I love the way it lifts the pile up, the carpet feels all nice and springy when you get done vacuuming. It is pricey, but I got it at Bed, Bath & Beyond and I used my 20 percent off coupon to save $100 on it.
